I was diagnosed 2 years ago with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis. I am currently taking weekly tocilizumab which seems to be controlling things, however every week I have pain in different areas. In my hands, then wrists, then hip, then knee. Is this normal to experience pain all over the place, it's so frustrating. Just as I get over one area another area flares up. Any comments will be greatly appreciated. X

Rheumatoid pain
Hi, nice to hear from you 🙂I also have Tocilizumab, which seems to be keepthings at bay for me too. I think RA has its own mind and finds it's own path - often a random one. How long have you had Tocilizumab?
I've been on it about 8 months, I don't understand why I get pain in so many different areas. My hip was so bad I had to have a steroid injection, now I can't move my knee Is this rheumatoid or something else? X
I'm sure you have already asked your rheumatologist this? Are you on other meds like methotrexate, Sulphasalazine or similar?
It sounds like you aren’t completely in remission and may need a slight change to your medication. Make sure you tell your rheumatology team or they won’t know you need help.
I have Seronegative RA and this does happen. You‘re not the only one who suffers with „travelling arthritis“ - which is what me doctor called it. Actually I was much better off when it “travelled” because then it stops and you have permanent pain in those areas - at least I did.I can’t cope with the medicines the rheumi recommended for RA so have had to continue using a steroid (which I have to use for PMR). I also take Cocodamol.
Morning My Consultant said when it moves around like that it is inflammatory, mine does, mostly it’s in my right hip, but another day it’s in my left, then my shoulder hurts......it flits around 🤔
I too am on weekly Tocilizumab, it is controlling things for me. I get occasional break through mini flares. They don’t last long, hours at the most. Perhaps worth chatting with rheumatologist or nurse about it, if you haven’t already.
I’m also sero positive RA - diagnosed 10 years ago and had travelling , erratic inflamed joints just as you describe. It eventually settled to a more ‘traditional’ symmetrical pattern, but flares can still flit about.
I am seronegative but my symptoms move from place to place. It is impossible to predict what will hurt next. I feel embarrassed when people ask how I am, they will say how is your hip now and I will answer it is my shoulder that is hurting at the moment and I can't lift my arm. Next time I see them I am hobbling as it is my knee. You just see that slightly confused, almost suspicious look in their eye. I am on MTZ which my consultant has reduced recently and Cosentyx at the moment but it is not quite t he right thing at the moment.
Do let your Rheumatologist know that you are getting these inflammatory symptoms as it seems your current medication is not adequately controlling your RA and may need adjustment.
Thankyou all for your replies, very reassuring comments.
Sadly RA has a mind of its own. I too have this and have never been in remission but its under control kind of. If I get stressed or infection s boom up it pops. I also have Fibromyalgia as a second problem as they are bed fellows I'm told. Hope you improve soon
Hi
So I'm on Amgevita, a generic for Humira. I also take Rheumalef daily.
I have had so much pain recently it was unreal. Doc however found that my inflammation levels were down so it could not be the Rhemathoid.
She diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia.
I'm on Lyrica capsules at the moment and am finding some relief.
I'm hope that this helps.
