Hi all. I took the plunge and applied for PIP with some help from benefits and work. I had a text on 18th October saying they had received it and passed it on to an assessor. And haven’t heard anything since. Should I chase or is this usual timescale?

I got a date for a ftf assessment a couple of weeks after the DWP received my completed form but it was May 2019. Things may be a bit slower at the mo but you can phone and ask if anything has been sent out to you just in case its not been received. I opted for a text service from them so they kept me updated anytime anything happened. I’d give them a call. Good luck. x
I got my award letter around a fortnight after assessment (both initial claim & renewal) but that was pre-Covid. My sister in law received hers a few weeks ago around a month after her assessment. I have read that it can take anything between 12 to 22 weeks from start of claim, the latter does seem excessive though. If it was me I’d contact the DWP, but be prepared for a long wait if phoning. My h was holding on for 35 minutes last Friday to ask for a copy of a page to renew his Blue Badge. However the girl was very helpful, even apologised for the long wait, which diffused a potentially grumpy situation!
I hope you've not much longer to wait. Remember to have tour details to hand if you do chase it up. Did you request a copy of the assessors report?
I've recently just been through this process. I applied at start of June 2021. I got a text message to acknowledge receipt 6 weeks later after I chased by phone. My telephone assessment was mid October 2021. A decision was made within 2 weeks although the text message i received said i would get a decision within 8 weeks.
Once you've been given the appointment do prepare the meeting. Make notes if you need to so you can refer to them. Take your time and don't feel you need to rush you answers. Good luck.
Thank you. That’s so helpful. I’ll try and give them a call today as I haven’t had an appointment for my assessment yet, I hope I haven’t missed that! Did you get a text message about your telephone appointment as well as a letter? It’s high pressure stuff applying for this isn’t it!
Hi Pink! If you do get a face to face, try to remember those ‘descriptors’ from the Work and Benefits website. Try not to use the words that come so naturally to us all. We all say, ‘I’m fine’ or ‘I can probably’ or ‘sometimes’ but they’re looking for words that tick boxes. When I had my assessment, the woman I saw was very pleasant but they work to a script. If I needed to add anything, she said she would come to that later. Later never comes! I did get standard care and enhanced mobility but it was before Covid. I’ve now been waiting for a reply for a Review for over 6 months. I’ve checked twice with DWP so I know they have it. I’ve also written to my MP to say how unfairly the DWP are treating people people who have disabilities or are ill. I’m assuming it will fall on deaf ears. Good luck with your claim. I really hope it goes in your favour and you don’t have to wait too long. Nic xx
A few months wait for an assessment is pretty standard. I would enjoy Christmas and start to chase up mid January. Try not to worry x
This is good advice. I need to force my brain to switch off.
Applied in June had Assessment in October, it's taking ages.
Have you had a decision yet?
Yes got a positive outcome. So it can be worth the wait it's back dated from when you 1st claimed.
Fab news for you! I’m keeping everything crossed. I rent privately and my landlord is a so and so, there is no shower. So I’m hoping the extra money will help me move house to somewhere I don’t have to get one of my teenage daughters to hoist me out of the bath
Hi. I would get a social services assessment. If you need adaptations you may get priority housing with a housing association or council (cheaper and more secure also) x I would apply anyway tbh explaining what you need as standard (shower/ central heating).
*state on any application that you have applied for PIP.
It can take 3 months or more to assessment and up to 6 for decisions
Hi Pink75928I applied for a review in the middle of July. Got a letter yesterday. They have given me the Enhanced Daily Living and the Standard rate Mobility. They said they made there decision on the basis of the information they had, test results, medication, treatment etc and I don't need to have a consultation. They have given me it for a ongoing period. They said they will contact me to see if my needs have changed and to look at the amount I get. They said that will be after 21st November 2031. I also got paid from the date I applied for the review. Hope this helps.
