PIP Advice Please.

Had a letter the other day for my PIP assessment, which was for the 10th October in Birmingham. Now I had to cancel the appointment, because i am being referred for an MRI & blood test, due to the problem I had last Monday (problems with walking, agony, burning sensations, which i've never had on the lower part of my body).

When I cancelled, I mentioned i wouldn't be able to make the journey as it would be too uncomfortable, plus i now need to wait for the appointment dates, to find out what's going on. I have now received a rearranged appointment for the 13th October, for a home visit!

Now, my question is: If i get an MRI appointment on the same day, or round about the 13th October, how on earth am I able to give them the results, which goes towards my claim, on time?

I know you're only allowed to cancel the PIP Assessment once, but what happens if i need to cancel again? (I did ask them, but it's gone over my head).

I have an appointment for blood test on 10th October.

If this home visit were to go ahead, who can i have with me?

Plus this home visit is at 1.30pm, that gives me 20mins to get home from work, a journey which takes me half an hour. I think i need a bloody hover board!! 😅

Sorry for the rambling, just getting slightly stressed about it, which we all know is not good for us.

Thanks in advance for any response.

As you made the pip application before you had any problems with your walking, you must had felt that the original problem was disabling enough to your daily living to make an application. The pip appointment will be based around the form that you sent in explaining your day to day issues. So if you don't have the results it shouldn't be that big an issue, especially as You have only had the increased burning for a week. You can send any additional information to help your claim after you appointment as long as you tell the assessors that you are awaiting further test results. My assessor arrived at my home 20 minutes before my appointment was due, I think.maybe to catch me out so bear that it mind. As this is an important appointment I would prioritise appointment and just book the afternoon off work and I wouldn't cancel it again. Good luck

Hi Ruth

I'd agree with whats been said already .

My understanding of PIP is the assessment isn't based on a diagnosis but rather the way your condition impacts your day to day living. This is what you'd speak too at your home visit . Clearly there would be the opportunity to explain things feel worse and you require MRI etc .

You can have whomever you choose in your home, as a support.

Given that you can only cancel the business once ( and you have done), I'd prioritise it. I would also make your gp/ rhuemy aware that on this day, you'd be unable to attend for MRI - they should be able to accommodate this.

In terms of rushing home from work , your assessments not for another two weeks- why not take the day off as annual leave or better still explain why you can't be in and ask that it's considered a medical appointment - covered under disability Act.

No hover board required!

Best of luck

Marie

Thanks for your reply. Have requested time off from work, but still waiting for an answer, I work at a school, so the Head likes to keep you waiting, until the very last minute. Just trying to find someone who is available to sit with me during the assessment now, but that's getting to be a bit of a difficult one. May have to do it alone 😟

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. It feels stressful and dues feel better when you have support.

However, just remember, you're not asking for something that isn't needed. Just tell them hue you are on your worst day. Don't underplay it - we tend to be good at that?!

I wish you the very best

Grab anyone you can to be with you , I got penalised for turning up alone , they saw I got there by myself so therefore I'm able . Had they known I have no one to go with me as all my family live abroad might of been a different outcome , but yet again judged for the wrong reasons . So have someone with you !!!

You can't cancel again. The results won't matter at the time, if you have proof to show them that you have some pending & perhaps a referral letter, that would be proof you can show them when they arrive. As already advised, I would prioritise this appointment with the PIP assessors. They have been accommodating to be fair, by changing it to a home visit. I didn't have anyone with me, my husbands mum was taken ill at the last second, so I faced them on my own. Personally, I would rather get it done with, the longer it's put off, the more it becomes stressful & it's bad enough without prolonging the angst. Good luck, & I would get it over with x
