Methotrexate and covid jab, update!

Had an email back from my consultant today advising having my jab one week after taking MTX then allow two weeks after before resuming MTX again. Just thought I'd put this on a fresh thread as somany of you have been kind enough to respond to my initial post.

Cheers all x

Hi there my lot told me to keep on taking it and not to miss a dose. Does the left hand know what the right hands doing? 🤔. Best of luck when you get your jag🤗

I had mine last Saturday was advised not to take methotrexate that week as my day for taking is a Saturday and to take as normal the following week xx

The advice could depend on how high a dose you are taking. Could be thought to be more important to leave a gap if you are on a high dose.

Seems to depend on a whole host of situations, yes x

Thanks for the update. I had my jab on Saturday and as I couldn’t get hold of my consultant after speaking to others decided to take my methotrexate. I am on 20mg a week and was not sure. There is conflicting information from different consultants.

My understanding is that due to the risk of stopping meds and triggering a flare up, which can make you more vulnerable to infection, on the whole the advice I have seen says take the meds as normal following a vaccination. Of course, partients will be advised by their own doctors which may be the reason for the differing advice, including being tailored to the patient.

There was an interesting study that looked at stopping MTX for a week or so following a flu vaccination, resulted in antibodies being higher, however, this is only a study (doesn't say that you will get any worse a flu or not if you do take MTX as normal) and of course we are all different...I had to stop my meds due to an infection just for 2 weeks and I've never been the same since!
