Our (sort of) christmas tree goes up on the 20th...

What’s a sort of Christmas tree 🎄

helixhelix profile image
helixhelix in reply to essexgirl

It’s a wire cone, with glitter, a few baubles, and a thing with wings on top. We”ve had it for about 20 years.

Not yet for me. I love a real tree and always keep it up until 12th night if I can. So that it will keep most of it’s needles till then I will probably wait until mid-December. But I might put up other decorations and lights before that.

Unfortunately my paper white daffodils are doing so well already I think they will flower and be finished before Christmas. Perhaps the hyacinths will get their timing right.

I understand what your saying , I was the same a while back , I wasn’t doing the things a nannie should be doing with them as I was always in pain and tired and hated the thought what they would think of me .

Can I ask why your getting no treatment at the moment

We usually buy ours beginning of December so the choice is good but leave it in the garden in a bucket of water. We bring it in to dry 2 or 3 days before decorating it a week before Christmas. Haven’t discussed what we'll do this year yet but it will be out of the house on 12th night.

nomoreheels profile image
nomoreheels in reply to nomoreheels

I'd forgotten, we'll need 2 this year. The second will have to be an artificial one. That's tonight spent shopping on line then, once Strictly's finished of course.

Of course lol

I was on a trial drug but because I have Addisons my steroids levels were too high so they threw me off the trial after 34 weeks. My local CCG now won't pay for any further Biologics. Bit stuck at Mo but am going to ask for a referral to Addenbrookes

Thanks for kind words. Always feels like we are fighting against the NHS and others.. These phone call appointments don't work for me at the moment. Will sort the decorations out as you suggest.

My friends little girl wanted to put theirs up on March 23rd in first lockdown!! She was told it was a tad early.

But I got my first hand made Christmas card from her in May instead! Bless her, she's only 7 and loves Christmas!

Not me, I don’t put it up till a week before Christmas. I do put quite a lot of lights in the garden though from late November!

My flat is normally a Christmas free zone - no tree or decorations. Bah humbug!

I have put some fairy lights on today, for Diwali as we can all do with more light in our lives at the moment xx

20th December for me. I like it to still be a novelty on Christmas Day.

Fruitandnutcase profile image
Fruitandnutcase in reply to Sheila_G

My birthday is on the 20th so it goes up after that. Although it’s got later and later in recent years until a couple of years ago I wondered if it was even worth bothering - husband said YES! So it eventually went up on Christmas Eve even though we had bought it early in December.

We’ve got lots of solar lights on the trees in the back garden - they stay up all year - unfortunately there isn’t enough sun these days to get the lights to work well which is a shame as it’s lovely to look out on them.

I’ve got those Christmas candelabra things in all the windows though and they look lovely from outside.

Yes, ours is up, we're slowly decorating it for the big switch on, not sure when that will be 😁

I used to insist on waiting till the traditional day, Christmas Eve. I thought it was more exciting -for me as well as the children! But since they all grew up they bully me into doing it much earlier - about a week or ten days before Christmas. Thinking of getting an artificial one this year though.

Mine get put up the weekend before Christmas Day. Trees in the lounge and dining room and lights outside on the rowan tree and in the back garden on a Christmas tree that my daughter purchased when she first started teaching and lived in a flat; it was then about a foot high in a small pot. It is now over seven foot and resides in our back garden which we love to put lights on it each year. She is now married with two children and we care for her tree. We live too far away to transfer it to her garden.

I love decorating for Christmas and usually purchase something new each year and still put both my daughter and son's little things they made at school on the tree. They are 46 and 43 now.

I am interested to see if my son and family will be having a tree this year, they had two last year, one in their conservatory and one in the lounge. Cookie their cat was about six months old then and destroyed both of the trees and most of the decorations!!

Due to covid19 we won't be able to visit them this year. Both families live too far away us, hence we are not in their bubble. Still we have zoom and the telephone, so mustn't grumble.

I grew up putting it up on Christmas Eve, my other half grew up putting it up super early, so now we compromise and it goes up at the start of the week before Christmas, so we're getting it on 14th Dec this year. Just found a local tree farm that delivers, so booked it today - can't wait :D

Wow that’s definitely different

My aunt was born on Christmas Day. She puts the Christmas tree and decorations up In November. Celebrates Christmas On Christmas Eve. Midnight takes down all the decorations and say right today is my birthday and has a birthday party.. always 2 sets of presents refuses joint birthday/Christmas presents.

Always put my tree up around the 20th. Takes up too much room... bah humbug 😁
