Looks like our Christmas present was Covid. At my partners mothers and both tested positive one this morning and the others last Thursday but so far I’m negative but sure I’ll get it. not sure where we picked it up as been careful. I’m not sure what to do meds wise as I took my 15mg of MTX yesterday as normal and 5mg of prednisone this morning that I take daily. Can’t speak to any one and 111 is a waste of time
Christmas Covid: Looks like our Christmas present was... - NRAS
Christmas Covid
My advice at the moment is to keep testing yourselves daily. xxxx
You might not get it - my husband had it some time ago and I didn’t get it. I tested regularly because I felt bad but I was always negative. So fingers crossed you won’t get it, I’ve known others who didn’t when their nearest and dearest had it.
Thanks. Carole’s mother tested positive last Thursday and her today but so far I feel ok and negative so here’s hoping but not confident
Finger crossed you escape! I had Covid over Christmas last year & as you say 111 & 119 are useless at holiday times.
Luckily I had it mildly & recovered reasonably well. …but minus taste & smell.
Eventually I did get in touch with 111 & back then there was a system called Covid Care at Home…..they called daily…& checked my stats…& they sent an Ambulance with a couple of Paramedics to check me over on New Year’s Eve.But I think that was only because I’m very elderly & live alone. You have taken your meds now….so don’t worry & by Thursday your rheumy team/GP/ 111 should be contactable…so if you do test positive give them a call about your Pred & if you should take your Mtx next week.
Wish you well…Happy New Year!
I’ve tested positive this afternoon. I called 111 as I’m on Rituximab. I had a call back within an hour and they are making a referral to the CMDU. I’m guessing I might be waiting a while for them to call though as the lady at 111 wasn’t sure if they worked bank holidays.
However, if you need 111 call them.
I 'm 82, on RTX by infusions and tested +ve 4 days after my husband [ who didn't isolate]. 111 and GP reception didn't know what antivirals were but was able to get them [in hospital] within the crucial 48 hours so did ok in the end after 2 weeks ill. Changed GP tho' as that was the last straw. Too late to help you as only just read yoyu post, sorry, but it may help others. Hope you are ok now?
Thank you for your reply. I received antiviral tablets within 24 hours of testing positive. I felt pretty rough for the first few days but once the antivirals kicked in I quickly improved. I tested negative 4 days later. It’s left me with a cough and a slight runny nose but not too bad.
I am very fortunate to have well functioning NHS in our area.
😭🙏
You have to just deal with it unfortunately, protect yourself, plenty VIT C, K2 and D3, plenty liquids, stop telling yourself you are going to get it, that's the worst thing you can do.
Just to let people know in case they don't already know, NHS 111 is not a national service as such, it is run locally by your local ICB. So yes, it is a post code lottery. But that also means that if you don't get a good service from NHS 111 it is definitely worth contacting the ICB complaints services as well as your local HealthWatch and if it is really bad contact the CQC too. The companies running local NHS 111 services do sometimes either lose their contracts or don't get their contracts renewed because local people have spoken up.
I was told to keep taking meds while testing negative. Hope your family get better soon happy new year.
Last time I got it I had no symptoms. You likely can't stop the pred or you'll be really ill so just test and see.
Well I've tested positive this afternoon and so far feels like a heavy cold. Hopefully it stays that way. Waiting of 111 ringing me back
