Thanks to everyone who responded to my query about going to the hairdresser. I went, and my head feels so much more comfortable. I'll think about going again in another 5 months!

Lockdown hair.
Gosh can you wait that long? I’ve been twice already! But mine grows very quickly and I’m sure it’s an effect of the steroids ☹️
Perfect timing for your post. I’m off to the hairdresser this afternoon. I was beginning to think ‘what am I doing? ‘ so it’s good to hear you’ve got on well.
I’ve been lucky that mine just grows straight down and I had a haircut in February but the ends are getting dry and get in knots if I’m not careful.
My hairdresser is Italian and very ‘huggy / air kissy’ on arrival and departure - I’ve known him for years so that’s not as bad as it sounds - so I’m not sure how he’ll be coping with social distancing.
But glad to hear about your positive experience. 😊
I've also been for 2 haircuts - I go every 4 weeks or so. It's in my hairdresser's house (she has a "salon" there with a separate entrance) and it feels very safe. She wears a mask and a visor and cleans thoroughly between clients.
My first haircut is due next Thursday and I can't wait. I wear my hair short normally but it's curling over my collar now and driving me mad in this heat😫. My hairdresser works alone in her salon, I have booked the first appointment of the day, and she's meticulous because her own husband is shielding so feeling reasonably confident.
I had my hair cut last week had about 12 inches off into a blunt bob so if lockdown happens again I’ve got growing room 😁 my hairdresser is normally very busy and you have to book about 3 months in advance . Now he struggling to fill in a full day people are too scared and he can only have see one customer at a time so if you have a colour he can’t see anyone else’s while colour is processing. He has reluctantly increased the prices just to cover costs . He is struggling to make ends meat. such a shame .
I went to the hairdressers last week after shielding and i felt so safe .Everything was spaced out and screened off , all staff wore masks and face screens and everyone was cleaning and disinfecting constantly. Unfortunately there was no tea or magazines and you can’t use your phone . Ive made another appointment for 6 weeks.
I have driven passed barbers where no one was wearing masks which was a bit mad .
I feel lucky that my hairdressers a bit obsessive 😀
I have my first hair appointment on Tuesday at 8.30 am and still feel quite unsure about it. I have been told there will only be the hairdresser and me in the shop, others arriving just before 9 am.
Mine went well. No hugging or air kisses!!!
He said he had done a covid course. Only two hairdressers in gallons of hand wash every time I moved, I noticed he didn’t use dividing clips, just put my wet hair on top of my head out of the way. He wore a face mask and only spoke to me through the mirror
I had a disposable plastic sheet over me instead of the usual gown, he used a disposable towel, more hand wash as I moved from the basin to the cutting chair again. Strange wearing a face covering for a hair do but it worked.
Basically he had been on a covid course so he was very aware - he said he was very nervous when he was faced with his first client - he was saying the most ‘dangerous’ thing in the shop was the broom for sweeping up hair because everyone in the shop uses it so hand (and broom) hygiene is really important - that made sense.
They had split the salon into two working ‘bubbles’ and one worked for three days each which was what kept things quiet, there was another hairdresser at the other end of the room - it is a big store - and her client came in half way through my visit.
My hair was almost dry so I said to leave it rather than use the drier. It was very sunny outside so it dried quickly, even if it hadn’t been sunny I’d have left it though.
Enjoy your hairdo, it’s so nice to get it done after all that time.
It must be so nice to get back to 'normal'. I haven't been for a haircut yet as I have concerns about the salon's covid policy. My hair grows so fast it's mostly in a ponytail due to the heat. At my age it's not a good look
I’m sorry I missed your question, I had mine done last week . It’s a large salon and the gas 3 customers and 3 hairdressers in at once. I felt very safe. They took temperature at entrance and I was worried I’d have a hot flush and not get done 😂🤣
It’s interesting to read all the replies. I haven’t had my hair cut since February and normally wear it very short, however it’s now tucked behind my ears and going down my neck. Hasn’t been this long for over 30 years!
My 86 year old Mum has been to her hairdresser who works at home, in a converted garage, and had a perm! Meanwhile, it’s still on my non-essential list. I’d feel happier about going if the infection rate went down more.
I had mine cut the week after Hairdresser’s started back. My hairdresser is mobile, I was given strict Instructions, to wash my own hair, wear a mask, all nearby windows and the door open. She’s been my hairdresser for over 20 years, bless her she has OCD, so felt very safe, she wears a visor and plastic apron, I have to have my temperature taken before she comes in. All equipment sterilised for the next client. I have my hair blow dried every week normally, but had to wait to get back to this while she fitted everyone in. I am just so happy, I have it in a short bob as so thick. X
not going to colour my hair wear head scarf
I uaed to have thick hari now it seems so thin if I continue to colour it at home
my hair migtt just BOUT COVER MY SCALP
I am worried
I'm too nervous to brave a salon. I've had two haircuts care of my husband! Luckily my hair is crazy curly so it doesn't matter if it looks like it was chewed by a rat 😂
