Has lockdown finished?

My OH had to go for his vaccine today so we decided to do our shopping on the same trip as it's essential travel only.

It was madness out there, I've not seen that much traffic on the road since Christmas 2019, they were queueing to get into the Asda superstore car park (god knows what the store was like inside). So we decided to try Aldi nearer home, the traffic was chaos all the way back so we gave up and came home.

Will try again tomorrow.

Bless you, how worrying. But I'm glad he got his jab xx

My husband said the same today, our washing line snapped in the wind last night, so he went to go and get another one but had to give up as the queues were too long. I had to go to the pharmacy on Monday and couldn't get over how many people were about..you would never have thought we are still in Full lockdown it was the same as a normal day, I think a lot of people have given up with it now. There's also bound to mixing for Mother's Day tomorrow too, I will be FaceTiming my daughters though. Best wishes to you 😊

Yes, definitely Mother’s Day supermarket shopping. My hubby said there were loads of cards on the road.

Probably lots of cards in those cars too though! 😂❤️

Yes! It’s good Mums are going to be treated and rightly so 💗 (and how I wish my Mum was here to be treated tomorrow.) Hopefully most Mums will be in family bubbles so they are going to be with their nearest and dearest enjoy a special day. If not, then I hope they can see their families online.

Same here, we just nipped out for a few bits and gave up... no social distancing going on today 🙄

Yes what is going on!! I didn’t go out but my hubby had to pop to the shop he said it was crazy out there ! It’s scary x

Maggsie profile image
Maggsie in reply to Gottaloveastaffy

Certainly was scary. This lockdown has affected me more than I thought. I can't bear the idea of going back into crowded shops etc. virus or no virus

In time we will feel better when we know the vaccines have worked for us. 🙏🏻 I think maybe some evening shopping after the initial charge to the non essential shops may be better to ease back? I’m in no hurry, but I miss my art shop in Salts Mill, Saltaire. Any clothes I want I can get from Next Directory or online where I know my size. I’m about to start some dressmaking soon and then I can have my own designs and original clothes. It was nice to wander round some shops with my friends but we all feel that it will take some time and they haven’t health issues but have no desire to do it for now. Wait till the hoards have charged at the shops then go steadily. x

Mother’s Day I think brought so many people out shopping for flowers and chocs and cards and food if they are planning a meal for Mothers in their bubble. Could be the same in the morning.

3LittleBirds2 profile image
3LittleBirds2 in reply to Neonkittie17

Exactly..that. My mum is coming to us tomorrow as we're bubbled as she lives on her own but sadly I won't get to see my daughters who live in London, many of us will be FaceTiming today I'm sure! It's just not worth the risk we're so close to some kind of normality again so need to respect the rules.

Oops I’ve crossed messages with you! Yes as I said on my other post, I hope there are lots of bubble Mums! I’m right with you on your thinking as it’s mine too. Enjoy your day with your Mum and your FT with your daughters. 💗💗

I notice lots of people say 'we' went shopping. Have the rules changed? I understood it to be just one person to do the shopping?

Maggsie profile image
Maggsie in reply to Wobblyone

I do go with my husband as i struggle on my own to reach and carry items. I can't get a delivery slot because my GP doesn't recognise me as vulnerable because all of my RD drugs come from the hospital and are not on my record and it's my one trip out every week.

sueathome profile image
sueathome in reply to Maggsie

Hi Maggsie, I was in the same situation, but my GP gets all the reports from the hospital by letter and had them all scanned on to my record. I only queried in January whether I should be on the shielding list, and she immediately said yes. The shielding letter came a few minutes later, via a link on a text. I was then able to use this to register on the gov.uk website as vulnerable, and after about a week, got emails from the supermarkets I'm registered with to say I could get priority deliveries. Might be worth speaking to your GP again? Good luck, Sue

I’d be the same and unable to go alone, unless I made several trips in and out as I can’t lift/put things in and out of the trolley. Or push it when full. I don’t go in anyhow at the mo. That’s awful re your GP practice and I had a lot of issues at mine re CEV too. Couldn’t get home delivery.

It's been bad where I live for ages. Not just in terms of numbers but no distancing either. I had words with a woman the other day as she kept leaning across me to get something from the sandwich counter, very close to my face. And she kept picking up the packets, looking at them and putting them down again. I've learned now to just keep out of the way as much as possible 😊🐰

Maggsie profile image
Maggsie in reply to MadBunny

I try, but others aren't so responsible. It got worse when masks became compulsory but now vaccines are rolling out no one seems to give a ...t.

MadBunny profile image
MadBunny in reply to Maggsie

No they don't. I've noticed that.

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to MadBunny

I think masks should continue to be compulsory in supermarkets for some time unless proof of exemption, as surely it’s going to make things even more difficult for CEV people trying to go out? People already think it’s all over here and distancing and lockdown have totally ended. My husband’s cousin is a part time cashier in the Co-op and they are not allowed to ask a customer to wear a mask. In fear of them losing a sale. My hubby saw a young female cashier being lambasted and verbally abused by two fools who had their masks on their chin and head. She asked them to wear them and they kicked off. 😑🤨

MadBunny profile image
MadBunny in reply to Neonkittie17

I really feel for the shop staff having to try to enforce the mask rule. They must get a lot of abuse🐰

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to MadBunny

Yes they do. The young woman was polite and the oinks .. were not apparently. Those lazy selfish people who couldn't muster up the effort to get their masks on properly from their head or chin won’t ever comply. 🤨. I never want to be near any of them.

Nor me

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to MadBunny

I’ll go middle of the night to a 24 hour Tesco or get up crack of dawn to go to a shop in time, but not going to wander amongst people who don’t respect others and don’t see a need to distance, and I am not going to go in cafes for a long, long time. I’ve just ordered a Tassimo so I won’t miss Costa coffee! We are not safe to go there just because places are being opened up and we have had one vaccine. Prof Whitty keeps trying to tell people this and so does JVT.

MadBunny profile image
MadBunny in reply to Neonkittie17

I started going to Tesco at 6 am when they first open . It's so much betyer- hardly any customers in there .

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to MadBunny

My hubby goes at 8am to our local one and it’s fine then. Yes you’re right to go early. You don’t need extra stress of dodging disrespectful people.

MadBunny profile image
MadBunny in reply to Neonkittie17

Yes it's worth getting up for. I'm lucky I only live a few minutes' walk away from Tesco.

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to MadBunny

That is lucky. We have a massive one three miles in one direction but it’s not a well stocked one for what we like. The other one is in the other direction about 4 miles away. Better as stocks more variety and not so huge.

MadBunny profile image
MadBunny in reply to Neonkittie17

Yes it is especially as I don't drive. We have a Sainsbury's which I prefer, but it's a 20 minute walk.

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to MadBunny

There is a Sainsbury’s near the Tesco but my hubby doesn’t know his way round it. I should also be able to get on I ado now to shop from M&S.

I notice everyday whilst doing our walk people no longer give you the space like they used to just happily walk past us . My wife had a bust up with a woman today who was shopping without mask when my wife asked where's your mask she said I'm exempt my wife replied well you wasnt exempt yesterday in the chemist when you had one on

I can't understand what it going on either. On Friday morning I looked out of our front bedroom window at about 8a.m. and there were so many cars going up and down the road that I couldn't believe that we were still supposed to be in lockdown. In the afternoon I had a dentist's appointment and it usually takes about ten minutes in the car to get there. This time coming home was a nightmare and took us an hour and fifteen minutes. The cars everywhere were just nose to tail and my husband had to keep trying different ways of getting home but it still took all that time. I have never known it to be like that even when we have not been in lockdown. What is going on with people? When we went into lockdown a year ago the roads were almost empty and there were hardly any cars to be seen.

Neonkittie17 in reply to

Hi H-W hope you are well. My husband has said this recently too and Saturday was busy as he was leaving when he’d been in Tesco, but that was definitely due to Mother’s Day shopping, but it’s never been a proper lockdown here this time. I think this meet one person outside on a bench is being misinterpreted as do what the heck you want now, for some! 😑 We noticed that there wasn’t a big reduction in cars on the roads too. x

in reply to Neonkittie17

I think if people are going to behave like this, then we will never get the number of people with Covid-19 down to a reasonable level. People just seem to be ignoring all the rules and what we are supposed to be doing and not doing.

Neonkittie17 profile image
Neonkittie17 in reply to

It won’t really go down properly round my way for a long time as numbers are too high here constantly. We will have to go carefully for some time .. many of us.
