So I got this text last night. It's a normal nhs one as I get messages from them a lot. I'm in the high risk shielding group
So I have been going in my garden, its luckily big enough and enclosed so I'm not near neighbours. Does anyone think like me this is designed with lots of people in mind for example people living in flats in central town areas?

I fall into the shielding category, but still amble round the garden. There's only family around so I can't see why not. Nobody else can come anywhere near me. Luckily we have gardens.
I know, two of my kids and their partners are in flats in newcastle with no garden and one is still out their teaching ... yep there are other heroes apart from nhs lol.. so they keep reminding me I'm lucky xx
On the gov site under shielding and the heading 'How do you look after your mental wellbeing?' it says 'try spending time with the windows open to let in the fresh air' ...etc, then it says 'or get out into any private space keeping at least two metres away from your neighbours'. So I'm assuming that's the garden if it's private.
I'm wondering if we can have the gardener for an hour if we keep doors and windows closed.
I believe it’s fine to go outside if you have a private garden and aren’t too close to neighbours. I’m end terrace, so nothing on one side and my lovely neighbour isn’t out often so I’ve felt safe to use my garden.
Whoever wrote it obviously thinks it makes sense.......but how realistic is it?
Whenever I have lived in a block of flats there has been a rubbish chute on each floor....but otherwise unless you know your neighbours very well - I would hesitate to ask them to dispose of my rubbish.
I suppose asking someone to walk your dog might be a possibility....but the “duties” involved would put most people off.
I still go into my garden & once a week open my back gate & push out my wheelie bin.....then rescue it from where the bin men abandon it after they have emptied it. Then wash my hands!
That is how real life works......the text could have been better worded, as could most of the literature put out regarding behaviour during this uncertain time.
This text is a fake ..PHE and Gov.uk both said it’s not come from them.
It links to a Government page giving advice to the most vulnerable.
A spokesman for Public Health England said the messages wouldn't have come from them and said there could be a misunderstanding as 'your home does include any private outdoor space'.
A spokesman for the NHS said the message would not have come from them.
The latest Government advice for the most vulnerable says you can: "...get out into any private space, keeping at least 2 metres away from your neighbours and household members if you are sitting on your doorstep."
The Department of Health has been contacted for comment.
I can’t find the blinking story now 🙈but it definitely looked like that text. the advice was saying in reply to the supposedly fake text was that you can go in garden but avoid neighbours and stay 2m apart. My mum is using her garden too, she’’d do mad if not! Xx
Is it the same number that you get them from? It’s very very odd and especially as they don’t seem to concerned by it..so you know anyone else who had it?
Yes ... you can sign up.and get appointments etc by text and they send you little advice things all the way from beginning of this pandemic...weird xxx
I had that text a couple of weeks ago and the next day I had the letter saying I could go in the garden. Phew! I think the text is a coverall one but must be directed at people in flats.
