After my ankle replacement I needed to go and have the stitches taken out. The district nurses, who can to change the dressings said they couldn’t go it and it would have to be the GP ( it was hospital but I’d gone to the wrong one- long story!). At that point, I didn’t have anyone that could take me to the GP and I couldn’t weightbear so the GP referred me to the WRVS.
A lovely lady picked me up, waited with me and brought me home again. It was great and I was hugely appreciative.
Today, I got an unexpected call from them asking how I was doing. If I was ok, if I was managing and they told me that should I need them to go shopping for me, they’d happily do so. I’m just to call, put a shopping list on the door mat and they’ll go buy it and leave it outside the door!
Luckily, so far anyway, my daughter is well and is able to do this for me but I have to say, I was really touched by their care and generosity. Most of these volunteers are older than me.

Oh Marie a lovely positive post to read, people are so kind and should be applauded, they don’t seek that though. So glad to hear you are doing well, you are very positive anyway. Don’t overdo it. X
Always lovely to hear there are good and kind people out there willing to help others. Good Luck with your phased return to work, take care and stay well. x
Indeed. I've heard nothing mentioned in the news about the WRVS helping out & must admit I'd not thought about them either so a big 👏 to them as well as we have all the other angels just now.
Hope things start to become easier for you from now on Marie. x
I think, at my practice anyway, the WRVS have provided a service for a while. I know, since covid 19, they’ve been ramping up their efforts to help people. Fantastic service. Such giving people. I am fortunate that right now I have my daughter to help
But it brings comfort to know that if she became unwell ( god forbid) that I could call on them for help and assistance.
Thanks nmh, I’m certainly beginning to feel less painful and it’s the first day back to work today.
Hope you and your husband are well and keeping safe.
H & I doing ok thanks for asking. Keeping out of trouble by remodelling the garden & back bedroom... garden when the weather is ok & the room being made into a living room when not. Bathroom on hold as no plumbers of course. H has just come back from shopping. Had a row with a woman in Aldi. They've put tape on the floor at the checkouts & he was at the far end of the conveyor belt with a chap behind him. Said woman pushed in to behind h, man behind said nothing. She bumped her trolley into h 3 times, 2 times too much & he reacted. He said the line is there for a reason would she please move back to behind the line & she said why should she, he left her in no doubt in understanding why. The cashier also asked her & she did move back but inched forward til she was back bumping her trolley into him again. Cashier responded by asking a colleague to make sure she didn’t do it again shall we say! Why is it necessary? We should all be doing all we can to ensure we all stay safe. Harrummph. 😡
