Knee op: I,,m supposed to be having a total knee... - NRAS
Knee op
I think it depends on the hospital. So of them have been designated as specialist centres for Covid, so would be more likely to cancel other ops. But I don’t think there is a complete ban imposed yet.
It could all change, so don’t pack your pyjamas yet...
From what I understand most hospitals have a contingency plan in place to postpone all non-essential surgical procedures.
Those that would continue would be cancer surgery, major trauma or anything that is imminently life threatening. Not all hospitals have put this into practice yet, bit the plans are always there in a situation like this. You might be lucky and get it done but I would prepare yourself for getting a cancellation call, just in case.
You could always phone the secretary to get an idea, although the decision will be made nearer the time I expect and the situation is changing day to day.
One thing is for sure, when this does hit, if it's as bad as they are planning for, there may be alot of critical care patients being cared for in theatre and some surgeons a bit lost as what to do with their day if they can't operate.
I hope you get an more of an idea soon.
Thank you ,so do i.
Hi gradyjackjacob, I'm in a similar position, my knee op is due 1st April. As Ajay says, you may be lucky and it goes ahead, but I'm starting to think after this morning's government announcement of self isolation for over 70s and those with pre-existing conditions "within weeks" that it probably will be cancelled but we'll see. Fingers crossed for you as yours is scheduled almost a week earlier than mine.
