Total knee replacement recent op
I hope it went well and that you are managing to follow the physio regime. Do you have to go upstairs, and are you able to?
I have had my knee replacement postponed - twice - because I was in such a bad flare that I had to go onto steroids, and they won't operate when one's in that condition. So frustrating!
Cathie had a knee replacement recently, and is waiting for the other one to be done.
Good luck. Best
Jo
Yes I had first knee done in November and it seems to have been successful but I just want the second one done now.
I did need to rest and do the exercises regularly and I saw a physio every week which was good.
I hope you're doing well. Is there anything I can help you with?
Thank you for your reply . Did you ask gp for physio . I am doing ok with the exercises except very sore after ......putting me off doing them .......I have difficulties lifting my leg off the Bed an holding it still ......when did you start going to shops etc for short visits . Glad you doing well
I've been seeing a physio privately £30 an hour and lots of laughs. I could barely walk but she got me to do gentle exercise and build up. I still can't walk very far because of the other knee. The surgeon said he'd not seen one so bad before and the one I'm waiting to get done is really bad. But the new one feels more stable. I do lying down and lifting my legs and bending and flexing and I've got a floor cycle which I do several times a week
Hi...I had my op on 25th Jan. I think the exercises are important ..my next move will be going to physio at the hospital. Hope all goes well for both of us!
Hi AbbieJ. I've not had a knee replacement, but I had my hip done 21 months ago. I hear knees are tougher. If your experience is anything like mine, your mood will be crashing about now, as all the 'happy drugs' they give you during surgery leave your system, and reality hits! It's a difficult time, but it gets better. Happy healing!
You are so right feeling very low at the moment . Had my hip done 13 years ago ,very successful , don't rem being in this pain . Will keep doing the exercises . Thank you .
I'm sorry to hear it. It's hard to get that pain under control to start with. But it's important to stay on top of it, because evidence shows that people in more pain do less exercise (no surprise there!), and recover more slowly. Talk to your GP about increasing your pain killers.
And do you know about ice and elevation? They give a lot of relief too...
Oh, just seen Farm's post below and your reply... I had to adjust not just my meds but the frequency/dose. I couldn't take Tramadol when it was first prescribed (2 at a time every 8 hours) because it made me very sick and dizzy... But I discovered that if I just took one at a time, every 4-5 hours, it didn't make me feel ill and it controlled my pain... It's worth talking to your GP about...Poor you!
Good luck with recovery. Don't be afraid to discuss and/or change pain meds so movement can be achieved. Be careful how your leg is placed and supported when elevated. My hips came out in sympathy so had to ask the physio for some extra exercises for them as well as it was the muscles - I had very limited mobility before the op. I used to take some ice packs upstairs in a cool bag (together with a drink and meds) at night to save my OH having to fetch them in the night if I needed them.
Were you surprised how stable the joint felt after surgery? Farm
Hi! I am Hansa.Hello! I had my knees done 12years ago. Both were done within six months. I have been lucky no problems at all now. But I did my excerise every day three to five times a day. Walked every day & increase the distance week by week. I still do those excerise. Only stopped while I was in a lot of pain this year when I was waiting to be seen by specialist in July. I was told I have Imflamatory Arthritis in fingers, wrist & my feet.
I was so happy up till now because I was walking from 10,000 steps to 15,000 steps a day till this Immflamatory Arthritis happened.
Please carry on your excerise & even if you have to take your painkiller four times a day. It will get better & you will be surprise what difference it makes.
Sorry you are in pain but do not give up.
Your walking goals are awesome. I hope once your IA is under control you can continue. Very impressive.
Thank you for your replys doing well now .......
