Hi, the fibromyalgia and effects all muscles and before you off to get other meds, PLEASE GO AND SEE YOUR GP, what works for some doesn't mean it will work for you. The best thing for Fibromyalgia, is sleep regularly weather induced sleep or not but sleep is the answer. It Wont happen over night.

Go and speak to your gp.&

I’ve no intention of doing it. Just it was a question I was asked. I also said it’s not as easy has that if it was doctors would have picked up on it years ago. 🙂

I'm not shouting lol, just answering lol, what I've seen and acupuncture can wor over time but it's a costly thing. Worth a thought maybe.

Acupuncture will not help fibromyalgia.

Have you tried it? Because like I said, what work for some doesn’t mean it will work for everyone, I ran a fibromyalgia support group for 11 years and suffered with it for around 30 years.

I have tried acupuncture. I had a short course before a lumbar disc enucleation 30 years ago, which brought short term relief.

I also had a one off session for severe neck pain around 6/7 years ago with no positive effect.

I could scream when I hear comments like this, it is a complete and total misunderstanding of what alternative therapies such as hypnotherapy are.

Not everyone can be hypnotised to begin with, those that can, are induced into a state of focussed attention and increased suggestibility.

Hypnotheray can relax some people, so that may be of benefit if you are stressed, or if you want to give up smoking for example, hypnotherapy may help.... some people..... reach that goal.

But Hypnotherapy cannot 'cure' any illness such as fibromyalgia, or RD or cancer or MS or Parkinsons disease anymore than it can cure a broken leg or the flu.

No one would say that , would they ...have a course of hypnotherapy to cure your broken leg ?

She hobbles of screaming and ranting......I think I'll have a course of acupuncture to cure my RD, my mums friend is absolutely adamant it would help me and goes on and on about it. She is like Mrs Doyle from Father ted...oh go on, sure...

(I spent 22 years of my life teaching psychology and spent the first few weeks of each new academic year teaching what psychology is NOT and clearing up misunderstandings with students, before I could actually teach the syllabus 🙄 )

Yes your not the only one. Guess it’s hard for ppl to understand and it’s hard to try explaining. Sometimes I feel like I’m on repeat saying same things over and over. Ppl understand when I say got Osteoarthritis but fibromyalgia they can’t get heads round.

Ask your mum’s friend if she is prepared to put her money where her mouth is and pay for a course of acupuncture for you.... she may not be certain then!!

In my humble opinion these alternatives can ease thing for you/us if only by virtue of they may help with relaxing, circulation and sleep.... I am saying that as a qualified reflexologist who doesn’t work professionally as such but use it for self and family + friends.

All the best

I've had a couple of courses of accupuncture in the past for back/sciatic type pain, it was helpful while I was going for it but the pains soon came back after I stopped going. As you say it's expensive and I couldn't afford to keep going.

I slipped a disc 30 years ago and had a short course of acupuncture which really helped relax the surrounding muscles, but as you say it was short lived. I eventually had surgery which I had a good result from.

Slightly off the original Q but I love having reflexology

When I was really suffering badly from anxiety/fear panic attacks I looked on Freedom from fear Group by David Johnson - The late Claire Weeks and some there had fibromyalgia and eventually much improved, seems all about reducing the stresses, triggers so I would say tentively mind that it's escabated by high emotions like anything I suppose it feels worse when you are stressed but certainly a stress link

If you hate seeing this type of posts, then don’t read them but there’s a lot of people who do read these posts and enjoy them. Your correct in saying this won’t cure you or any of us. Many people have to try these things because it can and and does help some of us.AND ME I believe that sleep is the way forward, it doesn’t matter weather it is induced by pills 💊 your GP, or normal.

JUST SLEEP 💤

Fibromyalgia is a syndrome and for years drs have been trying to separate all of these ills but they can’t separate any of them because they are tied together and holding as they do. Lol.

Fibro is 50% physical and the the other 50% is in the mind and the best way I can describe ‘‘this is by saying the physical side of the pain is when the painkillers work,

The other 50% is when they don’t work. Personally I use distraction as a way forward, works for me.

IVe read all your sensible comments but there is often an emotional element in dis-ease. Given that we are heir to certain illnesses in the family you aren’t bound to get them yourself. However certain circumstances might trigger them, environmentally or emotionally. What about the placebo effect when any disease can disappear. I had a patient who decided she was not going to have the dreadful arthritis her mother had and when signs suggested she was going down that way, she moved away to a different environment, changed her job ..... in fact changed her mind. Powerful stuff

No. It would not help in my opinion. It is not a matter of the brain. It is a physical nerve damage problem. A hypnotist implies that you are not really feeling or are not sick. It's all in your head. If only everything was that easy to cure no one would be taking medication that can potentially kill you. Right?

they would just get hypnotised and be done with it.
