I was listening to a podcast on this study that came out during covid on fibromyalgia. They injected mice with antigens from people with fibromyalgia and they found that the mice became overly sensitive to pressure/etc meaning they had symptoms of fibromyalgia. So they are thinking that it is something that is in the blood. There is some super expensive infusion that a person can get that is full of antigens that will basically dilute the fibromyalgia person's antigens and they will feel a lot better. The problem is the cost and that it only lasts a few months and the person becomes unwell again. They were saying the rheumatologists don't want to treat fibromyalgia because they don't know what to do and so this has been tossed back to the family doctors. Because no one is really dealing with it there is a lack of funding and interest in the research. Anyhow, that is it in a nutshell. You can google mice and fibromyalgia if interested. Hopefully, they know more about fibromyalgia sooner than later.

Thank you, smilelines, that sounds really interesting. I've been diagnosed recently with fibromyalgia and still trying to discover which cases which pain. Such fun
Oh isn’t it . So little help out there most meds turn me into a zombie. Hope this is a start to more treatments
I'm taking duloxetine and it's making my tummy very excitable. I empathise with the zombie feeling too. To think I used to laugh at those poor souls staggering under the weight of their meds from the pharmacy.
oh wow! I got my fibro diagnosis 5 years after my RA one. My rheumatologist basically gave me amitryptilin as he said lack of sleep exercerbates pain - I already know this. That was basically all I got.
That’s really interesting smilelines. I think Fibro is a very complex illness and there have been many studies trying to find the exact cause. I also have Fibro as well as RA and OA. The research I’ve seen in the past tended to cite the central nervous system as being the culprit. Whatever the cause, it is certainly not a nice condition to have 😟
DON'T use animals for research into human conditions, ask for human volunteers!
For those who would like to read it here is the paper jci.org/articles/view/144201
Andreas Goebel, the lead investigator is one to watch. His thinking is that some of these pain conditions are caused by immune system problems.
However, we must remember that this was #InMice. On Twitter/X there is a #InMice attached to any research that is in mice to remind people that humans are not gigantic hairless and tailless mice! There may be other reasons why mice displayed symptoms that look like fibro when injected with human Immunoglobulin.
