Morphine patches: Hi has anyone been on slow relief... - NRAS
Morphine patches
Hi, I’ve been on the patches 6yrs or more and yes, they have served me well, if your not on them, DONT. LOL they work very well but the addiction isn’t the best mine are 35 mmm or what ever it is lol.
I managed to get up a few spare patches just in case the patch needs to be exchanged if a patch becomes damages, but if you have no spares, I thought I was dying when I forgot to put another one on and I suffered for it lol, how these drug addicts cope I just don’t know how they cope especially if they don’t have money.
I have used these and they worked very well for me. Starting on 5mg they made me feel very odd, slightly disconnected and muzzy-headed. However when the dose went up to 10mg it was ok. No pain, no weird effects and no taking tablets all day. Bliss. However, after about three months I became allergic to the adhesive having a fiery itch and blisters. It was good while it lasted but I have a reactive skin and you may have no problems. I hope this helps
I did not realise I had left it off and thought I was having a flare. Even went to GP and got a steroid jag. Won't do that again. Apparently you have to wean yourself off.
I would never think of the consequences ie the addiction I would just think yes anything to make me feel better !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 12 mcg patch and a 25 mcg patch which my GP put me on when I first had spinal fractures through Osteoporosis. I loved them for week, but now I hate them and would rather take tablets. I'm supposed to change them every 72 hours but can rarely last longer than 48 hours, and changing them is such a faff! They make me feel anxious and tired, but I can't relax. Also, after 3 years they don't really help any more.
If you could let us know which brand you've been prescribed or has been suggested for your pain that would help Beth. The thing is my answer/experience will differ according to which it is.
My GP offered them...but my rheumy nurse said the side effects are often worse than the ailment you are taking them for.....so I passed!
I was just wondering if anyone have been on them because my friends mother was on them and she told me her mother was brilliant on them I was going to ask my doctor but in my mind I don’t want to get addicted to them 🤔
You do need to be clear which your friend's Mother is prescribed because there isn't a transdermal morphine patch but there are opioid patches which are sometimes referred to as morphine patches. One contains a medicine called fentanyl & the other is called buprenorphine, both are synthetic opioids. This is why I asked if you could give the brand name then we'd know exactly which you needed our experiences of.
I have...only the strongest dose patches gave me any relief but I had to stop using them due to the itchy red rash the patch left on my skin. Sorry I can't be more help.....good luck x
