Hi all! I’ve just been told that following my last blood tests that I need to start taking iron. I’ve been anaemic before but it was due to heavy periods and as I no longer have periods I’m feeling puzzled. I’m tired but then I’m always tired! As you all know, living with constant pain is exhausting!
I’m going to see GP tomorrow but I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this? Ta 😊

Sorry you are feeling that way. Yes im in same position. Ive got ferrous sulphate 2oomg X3 daily and fultium D X3 a week. I had to ask to be tested as im so very tired. Been told 2 months of these should solve problem. Take care.
Oh it certainly does. So know how you feel. All I would say is keep in touch with rheumy team so they know how you are otherwise they will think all is ok. As I say take care. Well off to get up (that will take a while) and talk to the lovely lafy that does 2 hours of cleaning a week for me.
Yes , anaemia can be part of RD. Someone on this forum told me about floradix, it's a natural/ organic iron and vitamin replacement tonic. Tesco and boots sell it. It is expensive, but gentle on the stomach and gut, and does not constipate the way iron tabs do.
I have been anemic too. It's not useful is it!? As if a lot of us aren't fatigued enough. I had iron for over 3 months and found it made a difference quite quickly. Hope you are very soon up to a good level. Like wise I think the tonic is used friendly, I just forget to take it!
I was told by the rheumy nurse I was anaemic so off I trot to GPs only to be given yet another blood test. The upshot was that I was not B12 deficient so go and buy some tablets. Which type not specified. So, brill response from hospital, not so much GPs. They really are useless bean counters. Cost is all
Having had 1 knee and then 2 hips replaced last year, I was anemic, was given ferrous fumarate to take, but it was the pharmacist that said I should take vit C with it to help absorbed the iron, and not to take vit D at the same time of day. Iron levels up, so have smoothies, with spinach, eat apricots and take a general vit B tab. RA is rubbish and I don't realise that I can't do as much as I used to, and have to pace myself . Hope you improve soon.
