Catching everything going! 🤒

I’m obviously going through a big flare at the moment.

3 weeks ago I had a bad ear infection and boil in my inner ear canal. I didn’t feel the strong antibiotics cleared it up so got an antibiotic ear spray. Now I have laryngitis.

I feel so run down my body is really struggling, is this normal during an attack?

Aww Bev, think you need a hot water bottle and some TLC. Yes for sure! You will be run down and more susceptible to these things. Stay warm and hydrated. Get well soon! Xx

I sometimes find that infections do run on and on, but sometimes quite independently of how my RA is going. So joints can be totally fine, but rest of me is rubbish!

Make sure you are eating properly, and drinking lots of water as well as tucking yourself up.

When you’re having a flare you’re body is fighting against itself and it leaves you more susceptible to other infections...never mind whether you’re immunocompromised to start with (depending on what he’d you are in)....seek support early from your GP if you aren’t getting better...

I’ve just been struggling with a chest infection and sinusitis and didn’t see my GP....and now I gave an ear infection....! So I’m on anti booties snd having to take time off work as I’m so run down and having joint flare ups...

Look after yourself x

Thanks you too!

I’ve been at my doctors and hospital every day for two weeks couldn’t face it again yesterday. But if I’m no better next week I’ll go as my throat is killing right now and I’ve no voice lucky for my friends and family!

I had an ugly sore on my arm thought spider bite. They put me on antibiotics and off MTX for a week. Flared when I went back on MTX but I’m wondering if the antibiotics triggered this. I’m in a lot of pain.i see my rheumy on Tuesday. Trying to get ready for holiday house guests and this is a big set back. You’ve got company!

I think the same as I’ve been on antibiotics too but they didn’t clear up the infection.

I’m not on any meds yet. Can you not take antibiotics with biologics? Are you more prone to getting infections with a weakened immune system? I’m not sure how it works then? Do you just come off whilst on antibiotics then go back on?

Hope your feeling better soon!

I checked with my rheumy and she said stop so one doesn’t bump out the other. I often wonder if the one antibiotic I took some years back started my RA. I talked with my pharmacist back then. He said stop taking it. It caused permanent damage to his aunt who can’t walk now. I’ll try and remember the name of it but if I leave this post to find the name of it, when I come back the post will have disappeared.

disappeared.

Yes, we're susceptible to virtually anything, and have to look after ourselves. Eat well, rest, exercise & fresh air, though basic, are vital. As is a happy lifestyle/outlook. Consider supplements: Vit D is vital also. And I keep a little bottle of hand-wash in my handbag. Beware cross-infection.

Sadly we tend to pick up a lot of infections easily so hope you are lucky and don't meet with any more of the festers! I've had six lots of antibiotics for chest and sinus infections this year and one lot of steroids and have been told my chest and throat CT was completely clear and I am moving with many people in group activities and have travelled more in taxis and some buses so I'm mingling with germs!

Are you in any treatment?

I’m just worried I’ve not even started on any treatment yet and I’m constantly sick. Could I be worse if I go on any kind of immune suppressants?

Obviously this will be something I have to discuss with my rheumy x

Sorry I've only just seen this message FG. Apologies. xx. I'm on Rituximab infusions which can leave you quite tried for a few weeks after you've just had them. They wipe out your B cells hence the compromised immunity and tendency to pick up the festers! I presume you have rheumatoid and are awaiting medication? If you have out of control RA then the complications and effects of that such as swollen painful

Joints could be so unpleasant without any prescribed med, that you would actually want to be on a carefully monitored medication that controlled the rheumatoid. You'd have your joints protected, inflammation lowered and could move pain free. I remember feeling so run down like I had flu all the time before I started treatment. When my RA got under control all of that went. I had energy and felt quite well. I am sure you will feel better once RA medication is prescribed for you. Hoping that's soon. xx

Looks like I have anklyosing spondylitis and have severe pain and bursitis in most joints and tendonitis and ligament pain. Seeing my rheumy Tuesday so will get the results from my spine and SI joints mri and finally start treatment.

How aggressive the treatment if any will depend on how bad the mri is.

Ouch sounds painful. Gentle hugs. I know my cousin has AS but it's mostly in his neck and under control but I don't know a great deal tbh. Hope it is not that severe and you can start treatment ASAP.
