I used to have really bad pain in my left groin, after visiting Drs so many times they got me to have MRI scan and turned out I have arthritis on hip and narrowing of the joint on bottom of spine, leg used to collapse all the time with pain so I'm the end o had to have injection in my hip and was the worse pain ever, but it did the job after the 4th day and was pain free, I get Twinge now and again but not as bad, hope you get sorted xx

That does sound like osteoarthritis and, if so, nothing would show up in blood tests. And sometimes, even tho' you are in pain, nothing shows up on xrays. Osteoarthritis can be odd - sometimes you have no pain even though lots of damage on xray, and sometimes its completely the opposite.

Talk to your GP about pain control, and about whether you could be referredfor an MRI.

I also have OA (many of us here do as secondary to RD, an autoimmune disease). Unfortunately there's not an awful lot of medicinal help except for anti inflammatories & pain relief can be done, that & exercise, best done with specific ones for your specific area of pain. Maybe ask your GP if you could be provided with some, that or be referred to physio. I empathise, my OA can give me a good kicking sometimes but I've learnt the more I give in to it the more it's problematic so try not to sit in one place for too long, I get up & move around regularly, it helps me stop getting too stiff which adds to the pain.

Like you, I'm careful not to sit anywhere for long - and never on a nice soft wallowy sofa - I'm bolt upright on a granny chair or up and down like a flea in a dog's bed .

at least I'm not tempted to binge watch box sets on TV......

(this may have more to do with a dodgy back than the RD - )

If I'm honest I can fall asleep most evenings in the recliner after h has gone to bed but pay for it! Talking of box sets, have you been watching Killing Eve? We just have the final one to watch but binged on all the others when we decided it was way past bedtime. Compelling viewing if you've not seen it yet (BBC1 Saturday nights).

Yes -watched Killing Eve - very addictive, but was loving the scenery - It was filmed around the Glamorgan coast and South Wales which is my home ground, though I'm living in London. So a good deal of what we call 'hiraeth' (no equivalent in English) was going on as well as the tension. I thought the acting was wonderful.

ps - it was filmed in Welsh first with English subtitles.

I didn't know that. The scenes filmed in Russia looked grim though didn't they? Grey, grey & more grey, social housing, even the hotel looked grim. I knew it's already been shown in the US, it's a BBC America production, but didn't know the UK scenes were in Wales, lovely as you say.

Oh no, I've got it all wrong - sorry sorry sorry -I'm thinking of 'Keeping Faith" - different altogether.. Had too may later nights lately (baby sitting mostly...)

forget all I said - enjoy the last episode!!!!!!

Ok. No probs.

in reply to nomoreheels

Could I ask if that might be the second series? We’ve just finished the first in OZ, and it ended like there was going to be more. Would love to know cheers Deb :)

No, first series Deb. You're obviously slightly ahead, ep 3 was on last Saturday though I'm up to ep 8, not seen it yet so no spoilers please! I read the other day they started filming the second series in London last July, so yay, more to come! No idea when it will be on telly but my guess is it will be around the same time next year.

I too have OA along with RD. Voltarol ( diclofenic acid) is the only non steroidal that works for me. It might be worthwhile asking for a physio referral too.

I have had a few episodes of acute groin pain which has started suddenly and I go from normal to agony and being unable to weight bear within a couple of hours. Had MRI between episodes - all clear, and my inflammatory markers are always low (although there's no way I could get anywhere to have blood taken when the pain is at the worst)

My lovely Rheumatologist has concluded that it must be a rheumatoid flare, as there's no other explanation, and I return to 'normal' after a week or so, as I do when I have flares elsewhere,( although the affected joints grumble on, threatening me with recurrence).

I guess I have to accept that there isn't always an answer the medics can give, let alone a solution.

I hope yours is settling now, and that you get an answer and more effective pain relief

This sounds so familiar. My daughter had horrific groin pain and couldn’t walk on several occasions. Because she couldn’t walk, she couldn’t work, as she was on her feet all day. Finally, she was referred to a rheumatologist because of terrible knee pain and back pain that would come and go, but last long enough where she couldn’t work again. The rheumatologist ran his tests and sure enough, she has angkeosing spondikitis with schlerosis (a form of RA) in her back! Mystery solved after many years of trying to treat each episode independently. She now takes Humira every two weeks and seems to be much better. No more episodes that take her down for days and weeks. She probably had RA since her early 20’s, and finally confirmed it when she was 40 yrs old!

I realize not everyone is going to have RA, but when things sound serious enough, it wouldn’t hurt to be tested. Years of such pain, it took her down, and now an answer. (She also had ulcerative colitis - another condition from the RA).

I have heard of arthritis in the bones of the groin area. Has anyone ever suggested Synvisc shot for your knee?

Sorry you're suffering. I have OA besides RA. Been on Naproxen for years, helps me a lot (tho u need to be careful how it is taken). Spine bad too, have had 1 op several yrs ago, advised no more if poss. GP helps me with pain relief. Physio gave me exercises which also help. Self management necessary, finding balance between rest & exercise, latter V important. I have a walker for when I'm V bad, must move as much as poss. Hard work, but determination & courage pay off so far. Good luck. ps. I love yr name!

I think you need a good physio. I had similar pain that really disappeared when working with right muscles and right posture. Hope you find help soon. xSimba
