How often do you buy shoes that you finish up not being able to wear? I go to the shops, try them on, walk about for quite a while (until the assistant gives me the look), think OK these are comfy, only to discover the first time I wear them outside and walk more than 20 yards, I'm in agony.
I'm seriously thinking of buying second hand shoes because someone else will have broken them in and they are not such a waste of money.

I always buy shoes in the afternoon now, that's when my feet are at their worst. That is if I buy from a shop nowadays, I more often than not try on, still in an afternoon, & then search on line. I love a bargain.
I thought I had found a brand that suited me - clarks trigenic soles - got winter boots last year and summer shoes this year. But they are only doing standard fit boots this winter ! They are too narrow.
All the time. I finally went to the Nhs podiatrist who gave me some off the shelf trainers that are perfect. My old shoes I’ve been selling on eBay and made lots of money for them. They are all in near perfect condition and gave me some treat money to spend!
Don’t know if we’re allowed to advertise on this forum but I find Hotter shoes are the most comfortable. They also last for years so are well worth the money, and they do have great sales. After wearing them for the last few years I can’t wear anything else!
Hi! This is one the things that annoys me most about RA! (Alert from constant pain obvs). I loved buying shoes before all this, different styles, colours, sandals, boots etc.......
But now I have to settle for a pair that will fit my orthotic insole which usually means NOT CHEAP! And I have to wear them all the time and they have to go with everything 😩
I bought gorgeous red fly London sandals this year in a moment of madness and they are so impractical but I just gaze at their loveliness 🙄
hi, I know what you mean about shoes, I havent been able to wear heels in months firstly due to my feet and now that they are okish, I can't wear them because of the pain in my knees ! Major eye roll, shoes are - were my thing I think I may have to do the ebay thing too. I now will focus on bags :-).
Anyway, you could try crazyclearance.co.uk, they do some great value leather boots and trainers in all kinds of width size for feet and calf.
i gave up wearing fashion shoes I tend to just buy good walking shoes or boots from our local outdoor shop as I find them to be a lot more comfortable and supportive. I have got some sketchers sandals that are very comfy to wear look abit bulky but I don't care now as long as my feet are comfy.
ooh I got some great Reebok trainers from Sports Direct - Reebok YourflexTrain Ladies Trainers they are very comfy, almost like having slippers on and only £33, which I didn't think was too bad.
Ditto but I suspect I'll never need to buy shoes again. A relative had a passion for Hotter shoes so, when she passed away, I was asked if I wanted them. My size and wide enough! I got over 40 pairs of mostly unworn brand new shoes. Some I gave to an aged sort-of relative, some I sold and gave the money to charity, some I donated directly but I still have loads. I've just cleared the last of my 'old life' shoes. I cried
I know how you feel and can understand the crying ! - I really love my shoes and have some which are quite unique ( last count around 300 pairs !!!!! thats how much I love shoes ), some I haven't yet worn and now may never be able to I will at some point have to bite the bullet and get them on ebay.
Don't rush to get rid, Rubyroo. You never know.....I kept my wedding shoes though. Diamanté flip flops just because my daughter said I shouldn't wear them and was comfy all day. Ha!
Sounds too familiar although I did have a good clear out of pretty shoes I just couldn’t wear and managed to recoup some of my money via eBay! I’ve had RA for nearly 30 years and find Adidas Superstars are fab also Hotter and Skechers. Skechers have memory foam insoles and are often available on the shopping channel QVC where you can try them for 30 days and return them even if you’ve worn them!
Clark’s have some amazing summer sanders. Of which I have been buying for two years and some many people love them. You need to go to the big stores to find them. Then uggs for the winter
It’s Skechers trainers and deck style shoes, and Ecco leather loafers for me. Can’t wear heels, other than low blocky types, and struggle with sandals as I’ve got skin that rubs easily, although I do love fitflops for indoors and short walks, eg between the sunbed and the pool on holiday! I too have a large collection of shoes that ‘seemed like a good idea at the time’ and every now and then a few more pairs go to the charity shop... As for handbags, maybe best not go there!!
I could’ve taken a vacation with what I’ve spent on shoes I can’t wear after I’ve bought them. I find that Crocs are the only comfort for my feet at home. On really bad days I wear them to work. I cannot wear regular structured shoes or heels anymore. Soft sneakers with good arch support or memory foam are my best bet. I’ve had a bit of success with Sketchers sneakers. They also make a maryjane style. I used to wear heels to work everyday and danced in cowboy boots. Those were the days.
