Flight compression socks???

Hi all, looking for advice / opinions.

I am travelling to australia from the uk soon, and I am wondering if I should consider getting some compression socks for the flight. My RA is under reasonable control, but I still suffer from swelling, this often effects me more at the end of the day when I have been on my feet all day?

Any info gratefully received

Thanks

Having been unfortunate enough to suffer a DVT and Pulmonary embolism I would have to say YES!!

Absolutely yes. You can buy decent ones that look quite nice online. I got mine from amazon. Make sure you get the right size.

You also need to drink plenty and get up regularly and do calf stretches in your seat.

I think everyone should wear them on long haul flights and I’m surprised they do not. It’s not worth the risk.

Have a lovely time in Australia. :)

I've had a dvt and pe's and would say yes and keep hydrated and move about too. but its vital to be measured so would not buy on the internet but from a stockist where they can advise you which size to get.

Have a nice holiday

I flew to Oz and used runners compression socks which were fine and I had no issues unlike other flights where I wore non and had joint flare ups even on short flights

If you would like to do your own research, have a look at:

evidence.nhs.uk/Search?q=fl...

which gives links to all the published evidence. Then decide for yourself on the pros and cons.

Absolutely. I live in Aus and it is a long plane trip to go anywhere, I also swell badly and compression stockings are the only thing that keep it somewhat under control. Also get up and move frequently, do foot and ankle exoercises while sitting. It all helps

I found I got on better with the compression tights as the socks cut me under the knees.

Have a lovely time x

100% yes. Even if you are a fidget like me and walk around the plane all the time. Have a lovey time upside down.

Use flight socks I didn’t and sufferd with awful pain in my legs coming back

Another tip use, spray or cream to prevent insect bites I git bitten by a contaminated mossy and it gave me Ross River Fever which triggard RA and I’m really suffering

I wear compression socks all the time. It helps my ankles. I had DVTs years ago so have been a believer in them ever since. There are different strengths so ask your doctor. I am glad you are thinking ahead.
