Hi. There’s nothing to be seen in terms of swelling in this photo, I’m just pointing out where it hurts. It’s not a joint. I get flare ups I. This place fairly frequently. I can’t make a fist at all and it’s very painful. I don’t think it’s carpal tunnel, it’s definitely my RA but does anyone else get pain here or not on actual joints? Thanks

Wrist/hand
That is where the tendons go into the carpel tunnel......why don't you think it's carpel tunnel? Although most commonly carpel tunnel affects the hand and fingers it can also hurt the other side of the tunnel.
My doctor said that carpal doesn’t flare up terribly for a few days and then completely go away. I also know it’s the ra because I’m flaring in my other hand too but in a normal joint place. I have full blown seropositive ra but my ra dr says it is currently ‘palendromic in nature ‘ so I get short periods of extreme, migrating pain and then be completely symptom free in between. I’ve been thinking about it and def think it’s ra inflammation pressing on carpal tunnel producing cts symptoms
Probably wasn't being clear....I didn't mean carpel tunnel syndrome which is what people get and need the operation to release the pressure on the tunnel. What I meant was that that's where the carpel tunnel is, so if the RA is inflaming the joints around the 4 little bones just there then you will get pain there as it's putting pressure on the nerves going through the carpel tunnel so you get carpel tunnel pain.
I have this frequently and have been diagnosed as palindromic, it's very painful but at least it does bugger off and leave no permanent damage. I wrap it up in a big scarf to make it immobile and unknockable, take pain killers and wait it out. Hope it passes quickly for you.
I had this last weekend. It was both wrists along the tendon. Both red and hot. Very very painful.
Yes me! Or at least I did. Felt like I was trying to close my hand round a spring but all the tendons seemed jammed and I couldn’t make a fist at all. Used to happen every now and then for a period of 24 hours or so, sometimes very painful sometimes not. Went through all the hoops of ‘is it carpal tunnel’. Never got to the bottom of it (and I have had carpal tunnel op on the OTHER hand!). It stopped happening about 2 years ago. Or rather it’s morphed into something else. Never any swelling and the best guess the doc could make was some form of tenosynovitis. I never managed to get in front of a medic when it was actually happening!
Horrible, if you get a solid diagnosis I’d love to know...
I still have problems with my right hand. But not same at all so don’t know if it’s a progression.
I have this too and it started in my right wrist and fingers two days ago, it is getting better but my left hand is now affected. It happens on occasion and I just wait for it to pass. I just keep taking the painkillers. Hope it clears up soon x
