He there I wonder if anyone can help. I’m getting pain in my left wrist, it’s not there all the time but it’s like a knife stabbing into it and then takes a while before it calms down. It happened at dinner the other day and it was so painful I couldn’t even eat. I think I’ve have been having what I believe is a flare as my hands have been bothering me more than usual especially my left hand. I wondered whether my wrist is part of my RA or whether it could be something else?

Wrist pain
I get that in various areas and I have always presumed it is part of RD so will be interested to read what others say.
Sounds like flare to me nana, they do hurt ☹️ My left wrist’s always worse yet i’m predominantly right handed, weird eh? Hope you’ve got decent pain relief & it eases soon x
Yes, that's the RA, I get it in my wrists too!!!
But you should get this confirmed by your health professionals,
I have one of those, it's like a kind of round water bottle that you put ice cubes into, and top up with a little water, I wrap that around my wrist, it gives me a little relief, i also use it for my fingers and the palms of my hands too,
Hope that you get some relief from the pain soon
X
Hi, yes I had exactly that problem. Mine was inflammation in the tendon of my wrist but a steroid injection into it really sorted it out. I would get in touch with your rheumatology team to see what they can do to help. Good luck.
My wrists were the first joints affected by RD and have been a painful nuisance for years. I have splints from the Occupational Therapist which seem to help. It would be worth talking to your rheumy team about it. Hugs
Like Gnarly, I've also had problems with my wrists for years. My rheumy referred me to NHS Occupational Therapy who supplied me with a pair of splints which have definitely helped. They have long since worn out so am currently using a heavy duty pair which give excellent support but are not exactly cheap.
Like Gnarly and Wishbone, I also have splints supplied by the ot. I wear them throughout the night. As I fling my arms a lot when sleeping my husband isn't too keen on them.
Yes, my wrists are one of my big problems. I have ular drift too , where the hand is moving outwards , right worse than left. I get a low ache and heat most days in my wrists, but also the occasional sharp pain which can stop me in my tracks. Wearing splints helps.
I've also just recently discovered compression gloves, which I bought from Amazon. I sleep with them on and my hands / wrists are so much better in the morning.
Thankfully no ulnar drift with me! Instead I have ulnar claw! I also have sharp pains in my right hand, which is my worst hand, caused by a nuisance of a nodule on the back of my hand near the wrist. My wrist splints seem to help with that as well.
I have left wtist and thumb splint and right wrist splint I wear. Right one doesnt help but left one is great
I had that in 2015 Nana. It went on for some weeks getting more and more painful then suddenly my wrist 'blew up' and it had then obviously become inflamed. I then had a steroid jab into the wrist (not at all painful) and within 48 hrs I was back to normal.
Thank you for your reply. They won’t give me steroid injections because I take anticoagulant medication so I guess if it got that bad I’d have to have tablet form.
When I get a flare my wrist feels like it’s broken, hope it subsides x
sounds so familiar tho' it was in my ankles that RA was diagnosed and where i felt those stabbing RA pains. Infusion bio-therapy sorted me out but my hands and wrists had recently started playing up. I mentioned this at my review and was promptly sent for scans which had not been done before. BIG SURPRISE - letter informed me that it was severe OSTEO.... so i got more support gloves [isotoner ] and began hi dose glucosamine + chondroitin+vitC. seems to work 4me, much less pain. So..... query, and ask for a scan... or two xx
I did have X-rays on my hands, feet and chest when I was diagnosed around this time last year. All it seem to show at that time was I had it in a couple of my fingers and that was how it has been until recently then suddenly it seems to have got a bit worse. I have to say other than the fingers the pains elsewhere come and go they are not there all the time.
