Full blown sweats!

Anyone else get weird sweats? A few times recently I've woken up in the night feeling neither hot nor cold but literally sodden with perspiration - RA related, female of certain age or something else...?

Hi, I did get these at the start of RA before it was more or less under control. Now I’m just generally sweaty all the time. I should be past the menopausal stage so I assume it’s the RA or maybe Mxt. Very annoying.

I am wondering if you are taking steroids, as when I have to take them I suffer from sweating profusely. I have to have a face cloth by the side of me most of the time when I take them.xx

Sweats could be a indication of something else. Have you had you complete blood count done?

I cannot speak for being a woman of a certain age, however i was 40 when all went to shit. Sorry for language.

I started having horrible night sweats in march 3 years ago. Was told by dr's and specialists that is was nothing. Had one doctor say it was from all the dmards and possibly the humira. But no one could say for cetrtain. I ended up losing around 38# before i was taken seriously and had a thorax and abdomen ct scan done. Found i had 42 lymph nodes enlarged in my abdomen and my spleen was 1.5 times larger tha ln it should be. I had one doctor say it was RA related and others say it was lymphoma. Still after 3 years still no diagnosis. Just treating symptoms.

Try to get your gp or specialist to refer you to CT and make it urgent. Get in early and get things treated quickly or end uo like me and have inflammation take over your body for 3 years and disolve all you cartilage.

Hope you get seen by some component doctors expeditiously.

Have a complete count done monthly as I'm on MTX. I am just getting over a cold virus so maybe related. Just felt weird as I wasn't hot or cold - just wet!

Your last sentences about 3 year wait and symptoms could have been written by me as I had exactly the same thing going on, when I finally had enough and did my own research the consultant actually agreed with my own diagnosis. Now I know what will happen next and have the right medication to help ease the pain, not just treat symptoms.

What are your crp levels, ast, alt, hemoglobin numbers, white cell counts? Are they all within the normal ranges?

I no longer get access to see mine, however I do have a blood test next week so I will ask them to fine check last months results.

Not knowing where you live makes it difficult but I am in Twickenham UK and my GP gives me the test results without me asking, he knows I keep good records and since some of the NHS ones have gone missing, it is important as my initial symptoms were kept by letters and they never got put on the cards and that was 50 years ago.

I have signed up here in British Columbia to get them online. I have my results before my doctors get them. Then I can do some research for when I have my appointments and then I can ask lots of questions and have them tell me what the numbers mean.

Don't have that option here. Used to get them written in a booklet each month but that isn't NHS protocol anymore... I found it useful as you can establish what is normal for you during flare and non flare times and then be able to query any anomalies.

Ask you lab if they can include your on the correspondence with you doctor. They send by email so they should be able to forward to you as well. They are YOUR numbers, not the doctors. And you have the right to see them.

Good luck to you

I get night sweats for 2 or 3 nights a month, usually just before I'm due on (Sorry boys, girl stuff!). I'm 48, and it's a fairly recent thing. Fairly certain it's nothing to due with my RA meds...

Menopause:(

I have this. Have mentioned this with GP who said it’s the menopause. But I’m not so sure as menopause started approx 5 years before RA began.

I got night sweats for around 3 months and I could not get a diagnosis. I woke up absolutely soaking wet, my night clothes and my bed it was horrible. I have never had anything like that in my life before. Then it just went away. I was tested for thyroid and lots of blood tests but all came back clear.

What frustrates me is that when everything comes back clear, they don't have a clue as why you had them. But something must off caused them to come on. I put mine down to hot nights.

However hot nights have never affected me like that before. Even if I just went to sleep on top of the bed I would still wake up soaking wet. It is absolutely horrible waking up all wet as you feel so uncomfortable.

I truly feel for you and I hope that you get some answers unlike myself. Take good care of yourself. 🤗🤗🤗🌹🌹🌹xxx

Every other night I get this to some degree. I am managing my RA with only Hydroxychloroquinine and anti-inflamatories after I refused to take MTX any more due to side effects. Have taken steroids for flares but am trying to avoid this.

Male 55 and have had night sweats from time to time and clammy during day. Rheumy reckoned it was condition (RA) not Meds. Seems to come and go for no particular reason. Am on Mtx,humira, sulfasalazine, amitryptyline. Been off steroids for 2 months. Hope it improves for you.

First question are you on a foam mattress ?

ATBr profile image
ATBr

Yes but have only been diagnosed for just over two years. Have had a foam mattress for a lot longer and without the night sweats before RA symptoms and diagnosis.

Yep - Do it day and night. I have taken to wearing an old kitchen towel around my neck in the house just to control dripping everywhere..

Well I'm going through early menopause so my HRT definitely helps with night sweats. But every time I am prescribed Predisinole steroids, I get hot and cold sweats, so it might be a medication as well.

I have had night sweats as well as day sweats for many months and no body can tell me why this is happening. I am in my seventies so definitely not menopause. I was off Methotrexate for 2 weeks and the sweats continued, so not medication. Hopefully this will ease off over time. I can emphasise with you.

I sympathise and also have many nights really hot and sweating for no particular reason. Diagnosed deep negative RA right years ago and presently on Mycophenolate. I was told years ago it was because I have bowel problems and it's the inflammation from that but do wonder if that is actually correct.
