Sweats Day & Night

I have been having sweats at night and during the day.It is terrible I seem to always be hot. My family specialist says it is "hot flashes" but this isn't just a flash. Sometimes I change my clothes 3 time in one night. Anyone else have this? I think it might be my medicine. I am on Remicade and MTX.

Hi there, i know exactly how you feel. I am the same. My gp says menopause symptoms which is probably right although i have some other issues too and so I am being tested for diabetes on wednesday. I. Know its not MTX related as they started before i was diagnosed. Maybe get your hormone levels checked? Is there a chance it could be menopuase? Take care from one Tricia to another xxxx

I was having the odd hot moment at 49.Then Started with Steroids and now oh boy.I feel like a fountain and look like Miss wet teashirt (without the figure to go with the title) most of the time .The slightest exertion like getting up to make a cuppa, answer the door any movement and I am having a pavorotti moment! Its rubbish it really is.Its bad enough with the ailments its not what I had bargained for with the treatment.

Hello Tricia

I don't know how old you are, but I am told that RA can be associated with premature menopause - in my case about 37. I struggled with nightmare temp fluctuations day and night - I would sit literally shaking with cold, then completely the opposite and this cycle was continuous, every few minutes day and night. For about 2 years it nearly drove me loopy, kept me pretty well housebound and sleep was just impossible! I was told by one doc it was menopause, by another doc it wasn't menopause and by other docs that they didn't know what it was. Hormone tests were not helpful because apparently hormones fluctuate hugely anyway, so being told one day that I had no oestrogen so was definitely menopausal, and the next time being told I wasn't because the oestrogen levels were normal didn't give any kind of a clue. I also have a pituitary problem with confused things further.

I was told that my symptoms were unusual (although having done some research I know that is not the case) and I was pretty much at the end of my tether. Eventually I asked the GP if I could try HRT (something I really didn't want to do) and, although he said he didn't think it was menopause, he was happy for me to try it to give me some relief. First off I tried 3 months of progesterone only which did nothing to help and I was into my fourth month of high dose combined HRT before I saw any benefit at all, and before the HRT side effects settled, but it has certainly done the trick! So I guess that, in my case, it was menopause after all! I know that steroids and some other meds can cause sweating too though, so your situation may be med related. I have had Remicade and mtx in the past (although not together) and although I had the odd "moment" I don't feel they were connected to the meds.

I do know how miserable it can be and really hope you can get to the bottom of it soon.

Thanks for answering me. I have had 2 doctors tell me it is menopause, and they aare probably right. I have had breast cancer years ago and cannot take any hormomes. Each doctor says sorry I cannot give you anything for that. I am 70 so I would think I would never have these sweats, but never had them years ago. I also was on Tamoxifen for 5 years after the breast cancer and some people say that could cause it. Oh well, I am doing so...............good on the Remicade and MTX so I won't complain.

I have noticed over the years that my hot episodes worsen at the same time as my flares. I have asked frequently about them and had various answers. In summary it seems that the inflammatory response in RA can give them and so can most of the medications that you take for RA.

But now I know from experience that, like last night when I woke several time with wet hair and sweat pouring down my face and body, I'm in for another flare.

And the pain is back after two days of bliss being (almost) pain free and its in different places like my thumbs , my knees and ankles. And I had to look in two mirrors (what a sight!) to check that I didn't have a boil on my bum, as that's what it felt like only inside not on the outside. Oh well, here we go again.

Thanks, but I don't (Thank God) end up with a sweat after a flare. If I did I would have a lot of flares. Thanks for answering.

hiya since i have been diagnosed which woz a year ago i have had really bad hot flushes and really bad night sweats, i now have not had a period in 2 months, i really don't understand what is going on x

Me either, but they say hot flashes, but I wish it was just a flash. Of course the doctor say either menopause. Then there is always RA. But other wise I feel good, so guess I can handle this, don't know if my poor husband can. lol Thanks

I had an early menopause, at 40, and I tried sage leaf capsules, I am not sure if they have any hormonal effects, you could check this and ask your doctor, sage reduces sweating, my husband tried it and could not believe how much better he was with his night sweats

.

Also evening Primrose oil can help a lot if it is the menopause, fairly high dosage, make sure again that your doctor is happy for you to take it, and check the safe dosage.

Good luck, I feel for you, it is very debilitating to suffer from this.
