methotrexate and night sweats

Hi all, just wondering if anyone else experiences night sweats from methotrexate?, and if so, any suggestions how to deal with it? I’m post menopausal but unsure if the night sweats are from the RA or the methotrexate. I take 25mg injections once a week.

thanks for any feedback or suggestions

Not with Mtx but I did with Rituximab. Fentanyl and other opiate painkillers can also cause a lot of night sweats too. Hard to know often if it’s meds or your own hormones causing the overheating. Hope you can get some advice from your GP/rheumy if anything isn’t clear online.

for me night sweats were from RA. They are different for me from menopausal sweats. Hard to define but menopausal sweats seemed to come in an intense wave with other weird sensations and have been well controlled for a long time with HRT. The RA sweats are more gradually getting hot. I don’t get it much now I’m on medication for RA.

I've never had night sweats from methotrexate (been taking it 12 yrs) but definitely had them from RA before going on the Mtx.

Night (and day) sweats seem to be a common problem in Rheumatoid Disease and you will indeed find lots of posts on the subject.

There seems to be very little hard evidence based research. They have been variously put down to the disease itself or to the medication. Layers to take on and off in the day and cool bedclothes easily changed/removed/ wafted about, seem to be the only solution...

I can’t say I’ve had night sweats due to anything other than the menaupause. I keep a remote control tower fan in the bedroom that I can operate from a state of semi sleep. The remote is a simple affair and always on my bedside table. If I catch the “wave” early, I can bat it back quickly and be back to sleep in no time. As you said it’s different to a menaupausal sweat, not sure if it would work for you.
