second shingles vaccine and in a full blown flare

I had the second shingles dose yesterday morning, by early evening I felt a little unwell but during the night I have developed so much pain (top to toe)I and a migraine with shivers and I’m shaky. I’m in bed for the day as I don’t trust myself getting down the stairs.

Never in a million years did I think this vaccine would cause this reaction.

Sorry to offload, seems I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself ❤️❤️❤️

Goodness, that sounds horrible. Hope you have someone who can bring you paracetamol and lots of water to drink throughout the day. That might help a bit along with some sleep.

I had exactly the same issue. No problem at all with the first one, but the second one knocked me for six. I spent 2 days in bed, every joint aching. I haven’t had flu for years, but it felt like a very bad dose of flu. I’d say stay in bed unless you really have to get up, plenty of fluids and paracetamol. My thoughts are with you.

It's not a flare but a side effect it happened to me Shingrex is awful but better than Shingles I promise you. In fact to make it worse it's only 74% effective so not only did I get bad side effects but Shingles again so had to take Acylovir again. lol Get well soon. x

It’s still better than full blown Shingles I had the vaccine as soon as it came out as under age then, it was an instruction by consultant as I got hospitalised with Shingles a few years ago and took anti virals until I could get the vaccine. It does protect against the worst of the disease.

I had a similar response after the second jab. It took a couple of weeks for me to fully recover.

You might need the first again then as the first one is timed out after 6 weeks I was told. Could be a good idea to check with GP and ours can’t record 5h3 second dose on computer properly so also mak3 sure it’s recorded. My GP told me I had had the second one as no phone and feeling rough with Shingles I didn’t argue. Got home yes I had so rang and asked was I there that day in case I’d forgotten it they said yes so put the message through to GP who rang to say sorry as he was a bit hit high handed and said no programme for Shingrex only Shingles.

My two vaccinations were six monnth apart! Surgery said that was the standard timeframe ! Honestly I wish there was a consistently with GP’s and Doctors in general. Doesn’t inspire confidence does it ?

Sending very best wishes to you and thank you for your reply ♥️

It’s mad isn’t it! I’ve just been talking to GP clerk who wants me to go for a six monthly review of a medication. I’ve pointed out as this is done every three months by consultant were they sure? And to make it worse it’s the second med to need this so in effect they are doing same thing in the same thing for two meds. As this includes blood was this fair? I’m livid as calculate it means one test is always out of date. It’s crazy no wonder the GPs need more money they are doing so much twice or even three times.

My surgery doesn’t offer med review as far as I know ….at least I’ve never been offered a review. As you say I’m not sure it would be helpful as consultant does it and then writes to the GP.

Let’s hope common sense prevails eventually……😊

Good luck with all of your appointments ♥️

I'd not complain if my GP left me alone, he, if asked a question usually says best ask the consultant. No joined up thinking as nice as they are I don't need to be seen for same thing a week after the consultant sees me. Here the GP and hospital computers don't interconnect so its constant repetition I think that the first thing Starmer should look at. Actually getting computer systems to work. Thats not political just common sense ! I think it's actually its dangerous that there are so many systems.

I was told it is usually 6 months apart but if immune suppressed the second one is done at eight weeks. I am due to have my second one at eight weeks as I take methotrexate and benepali. Hope you recover soon.

I was sort of expecting a reaction to the second shingles jab as people I knew had had one. Luckily no reaction at all except for a sore arm.

HI Sorry to hear your so rubbish no wonder you feel sorry for yourself 🙁. I’m still waiting for mine. Every time I have it booked in something happens & I can’t have it. I’ve just had a date for my long awaited hip injection & the nurse has said no vaccines for 2 weeks either side so that’s another month gone. I’m really nervous as I’m such a lightweight. Take care & rest hope you feel better soon x

I’ve heard various types of reaction to the Shingles vac. Very few lucky ones don’t have much of an issue but others just get levelled! I’m so sorry you are feeling so poorly. I hope your resting helps quickly and medicate yourself as you can. Best wishes…

I hope you’re continuing to feel better. After my second shingles vaccine, I had terrible joint pain and malaise for a couple weeks, but it eventually went away. Rest, hydration and paracetamol helped…and, of course, tincture of time. Thankfully, there isn’t a 3rd vaccine — I would have opted out.

Thank you - I am finally starting to feel better !
