I have my date for a liver biopsy, 24th August and I was wondering if anyone with RA has had one. My concern is having to lie on my back and stay still for procedure as I cannot lie on my back comfortably. I would hope they would put something under my knees? Any replies or tips would be gratefully received! Xx

Tips for a comfortable liver biopsy
When I had mine, I had to lie on my right side with my arm above my head while they went into my side . Was not the most comfortable but was all over in less than 10 mins, the worst bit was that you had to lie flat on your back for at least 4 hrs to make sure that you didn't bleed. I found that hard too. They will give you a pillow under your knees which helps but u fortunately you will have to lie flat for a while. My fibro did flare after it but I suppose it was worth it to find out that I had yet another auto immune disease. Hop all goes well for you. Regards x
Thank you ladyhm, I think if a pillow is available that will ease my mind. Sorry to hear you had a flare after but as you said worth it to get an answer to what you have, even though it was another auto immune disease. Thank you for the heads up and your wishes, much appreciated, I will let you know how things go. Kind regards x
Sorry I meant had to lie on my left side
Not in the same league as you but I recently underwent a biopsy of my wrist ( I have destructive RA) and the nursing staff were brilliant at checking if I had any particular issues of lying in certain positions for the procedure. Mine was under general. Just make sure you let them know of your needs. Very best of luck , let me know how you get on!
Hi Denise elk, so sorry to hear you have destructive RA and pleased to hear you had pleasant staff assisting you.
Mine will be local as I need to hold my breath when required. It's the lying so still I was not looking forward to as I have had no treatment for my RA since July 2015 as I have had so many problems, they arrived like buses all at the same time☺. I have a problem lying flat as hips and knees protest, but thankfully I have had some nice replies which have lessened my concer.
Will keep you updated and take care.xx
I had a terrible experience but that is just me and very unlucky. Tell them when you get there is you have any difficulties or need some extra pillows or supports. You need to be as comfortable as you can too so you don't move. Good luck I am sure it will be over before you know it.
