Any tips for my finger tips

Accidently posted this in a different group earlier- whoops!

Sorry for the unpleasant photo!

My nails have become really ridged and pale. Not sure if can see the ridges in the photo, but the ridges are like a darker colour than the nail and weirdly my nails seem to have an almost purple band at the nail bed.

Does anyone else have the same thing? Is there a reason for this?

I put a moisturizing cream on my hands and nails every night, but my nails still look like this. Any tips would be great!

My nails are rubbish as well due to all the drugs i have to take. I have false nails done every three weeks and they protect what nails i have left.xxx

Thanks sylvi- I thought about that. Does the glue not make your nails dryer? I have a spare pack in my house so might need to give this a go at the weekend 😊

Yes! In fact my ridges were the first thing that told me something was wrong with me.... the hand and wrist pains followed.... have heard it from several others on here too before!

Weirdly I think my ridges developed along the same time as well as the pains.Never thought about that before. Hope you are having a nice Friday Deniseelk!

Yes, nice but busy day thanks and looking forward to an evening at friends! Interestingly, my mum had nail ridges. She didn’t have RA but did , unfortunately, have liver cancer so maybe a general sign of the body trying to cope with illness! Have a good weekend.

I was advised not to have acrylic nails so have gel put on every 3 weeks. It stops them splitting which they were doing down the ridges. Ouch!!

Ouch ouch!! That sounds really sore! Thankfully mines aren't splitting down the ridges. Just flakey and crumbly. I am finding the skin under my nails is really thick and hard - no idea why that has happened!

Some years ago I read that it was a symptom of fibromyalgia. Not sure whether that is current thinking.

Mine have gone like this also, and they are brittle and hook over also brake easily. Was told not to have acrylic nails, had gel nails done and they made my nails worse, tried the new SNS nails but they are quite expensive to have all the time, so only have then done for special occasions and suffer my ugly nails.

Think it’s all the meds I’m on that doesn’t help them. But that’s a small price to pay in the sceme of things.

Thanks for letting me know Mummyola. Never heard of SNS- think i will need to google once I get home. Yes you are right- not having nice nails is a small price to pay.

Hi blacknov I too have ridges on my nails as yet just thumbs. Have googled the problem and found one idea is to soak nails in olive oil and lemon juice for 30 minutes a day. Haven't tried yet so don't know the outcome perhaps it's worth a try. Good luck.

I have always had similar vertical ridges on nails for as long as I can remember: used to file them smooth with manicure. Diagnosed with rheumatoid a year ago & have read somewhere they’re a symptom but whether that means you’re likely to get it if you have them, I don’t know x

What are your toenails like? Any problems with them?

Elsewhere you mention dry skin and a facial rash. Have you seen a dermatologist? Do you have any close relatives with psoriasis?

I’d be inclined to see a dermatologist: if you have psoriasis, Psoriatic Arthritis might be a possibility. Show the derm your long list of other symptoms while you are at it.

You mention blood work that appears to be normal. Over half of patients with Psoriatic Arthritis have blood work in the normal range.

Worth pursuing, I think.
