I have just gone back to cycling using an E-bike. It has taken me over a year to get the bike set up right for me. An ongoing problem is pain in the base of my spine. I’m upright on the saddle and it must be pressure. Has anyone got any suggestions please as after about 15 to 20 minutes I’m in pain. Thank you.

Comfortable bike saddle?
I have an electric bike, and switched my saddle to a gel seat. Sorry I can’t recall the make, but I have fused SI joints, and lots of damage to my spine, and can cycle for ages with it. I do still get discomfort when I go through a pothole, which are everywhere these days.
Yes, I swapped my saddle for a gel saddle. I’ve got a feeling if you go to a good cycle store you ought to be able to try sitting on one. A cyclist friend also uses padded cycle shorts but I’m not that dedicated so I haven’t tried them.
I haven't cycled recently, but when I did, I tried all sorts of saddles. I eventually splashed out on a Brooks leather saddle, which takes a little bit of breaking in but personalised itself to your bum. It was perfect.
Hi. I would also suggest trying to find a local independent bike shop. They should be able to talk you through all the different saddle options and you'll be able to see and feel them. The shop may even be able to help with a bike fitting as well to make sure your posture whilst riding isn't causing any problems.
I hope you get sorted. I'm just getting back onto my bike after a while off following my diagnosis and it's such a great feeling to be back outside (when the sun is shining at least!)
