Shoulder pain
Sometimes you to get a steroid flare which you might be experiencing. Some anaesthetic is given in the injection and once this wears off the flare sometimes causes pain which can be worse than the original pain, then it starts getting better. I've found these injections do take a few weeks to fully take effect, so hang in there.
I have will be having one on the 23rd may. Got some disk bulges in my neck. It has taken 4 months since my consultation to have this. Just hope it eases the pain i'vehad for over 14 months now.
Strange but I get only 2 or3 day's relief from a steroid injection as well, almost no use at all to me!!
Hi I've had 9 years of problems, have you had X-rays and scans done??
I had more than 8 injections in my shoulder and have now had 7 operations, if scans etc had been done earlier maybe it would not have got so bad, it seemed easier at the time for the hospital to just give me injections but all that did was mask the problems.
I hope you get sorted soon 😊
Hi, I don't know if this will help you but it really helped my shoulder pain. I was on the verge of having surgery, when I found out that my pain was due to underdeveloped trapezium muscles between the shoulder blades, resulting in too much strain being put on the shoulders. By using a machine at the gym that helps build the muscle between the shoulder blades, I've virtually eliminated the pain; and I'd had three steroid injections previously that hadn't worked. You never know ...
I have had shoulder pain for a few years now. I have tried steroid shots, PT, massage, and a chiropractor with no results to help. I have arthritis in my neck so it may be not helping with the situation but it normally doesn't bother me. I feel your pain and hope you feel better and it heals.
Hiya Denise & welcome. I'm on a maintenance dose of oral steroids so rarely need steroid injections but more recently I've had a steroid injection in my shoulder joint, 40mg Depo-Medrone/Lidocaine, which worked quite well. Compare that with a general lady July, 120mg DM/L which did diddly squat until about week later when it worked wonderfully well, for one day, but it was a really good day! I'm afraid it's looking likely that you've had your two days relief if you've still pain after 4 months.
Has physiotherapy not been suggested? My problems extend from cervical spondylosis & I credit my relief being extended by being referred for physio & also given resistance bands & exercises to do at home. If you feel it may help, given that steroid injections per year are limited (I think 3-4 in a specific joint but others may be more sure) I'd ask if you could be referred, you can only try to see if the pain can be eased by manipulation.
I've had shoulder pain since early in 2016. I tried topical anti-inflammatories, topical steroids, steroid injections x 2, and several weeks of physical therapy. The injections helped for about 2 weeks each. The physical therapy seemed to help initially, then made it worse. Finally, I had an MRI last February and it turns out that I have a torn rotator cuff, extensive tendonosis, a cyst and a small bone spur. I have corrective surgery on May 24th and I can't wait to get on the other side of this pain! Could you have similar issues? Maybe surgery is your only way to relieve the pain. I would push for an MRI.
