Followup on Turmeric use and more...

Twenty days have passed since I started my trial. Have any of you gotten around to making the golden paste and started your project? If so have you noticed any change? I am still taking good quality capsules with fat twice a day, since I had them at home. I wonder if the paste is more effective? Well I have been able so far to reduce my pain meds to half😊.

Read some more interesting about Turmeric and it's protective effect on the liver when on mtx as well as a hormone stabilizing effect of estrogen and progesterone. This is how I stumbled upon progesterone and it's role in RA. Research tell us that RA sufferers usually have low progesterone and too much estrogen. Unfortunately mtx additionally lowers progesterone production as do stress, which we often have too much of.Too much estrogen means inflammation. The reason for feeling good and symptom free during pregnancy is the abundance of progesterone. Supplementation with progesterone could be a good question for you Doc. You can also increase your progesterone with the right diet. If you are interested to look at real studies they are easily found on the net.😊

Hi Simba, from what I've read the capsules do help a little but it has to be warmed up, cooked with the fat and black pepper to get full benefit. I'm still doing great with mine and am a real advocate of it now and only take my pain meds very occasionally. If you search Trust me I'm a Doctor Tumeric, it was on BBC 2 and have a read, it explains how taking it differently can massively increase how it works, i tried to send the link but it won't let me!!

All the best, Woody.

I must have been using it for around 3 months now. I use greens organic turmeric gold from Amazon, it already has black pepper in it and i make up my drink daily. I use 1 level teaspoon of the turmeric, half a teaspoon of cinnamon a teaspoon of coconut oil then add a little milk, heat it all up in a small pan (not boil) and then put it in a cup with a bit of honey. I personally only use a bit of milk and get it down in one but the more milk you add the less taste ,you can make it to your personal taste. I know some folk make up huge batches but for me, even on shifts I'm able to get a couple of minutes to make this up daily. Hope that helps.

Thank you! Good idea, remember when consumed my paste that I already made! So you only take it once a day. Have understood that recommendations twice a day? Wonder if it matters?

Thanks for posting info re progesterone etc.

I have been taking Turmeric for about 1 year now.

My Rheumatologist agreed that there is lots of positive research coming out re the benefits, not only with regards to inflammation but cancer etc.

Told me to take no more than you would get from an Indian diet which is 1/4 tsp a day (powder not capsules) . And I take it with half a cup of hot whole fat milk.

I'm sticking to this method as this is the method the Indians and Chinese have been using for some 4000 years - now that is what I call data!

Hiya Simba. The progesterone link has me thinking. Women who are still of childbearing age taking low dose MTX are informed to ensure they have reliable contraception. The most reliable & commonly prescribed is considered to be the contraceptive pill, either the combined or mini pill. These work by synthetically changing hormone levels, the combined containing both oestrogen & progesterone & the mini pill progesterone only. My question is this, if as you say MTX lowers the production of progesterone & you're recommending increasing progesterone would this not be counterintuitive for those who are both prescribed MTX & the pill? Could this possibly make the pill less effective?

What I'm also not understanding is how MTX is actually involved, could you supply links specifically relating to low dose MTX, I really would like to, or rather should know having been on it 8 years. I know that of the two hormones oestrogen is pro inflammatory whereas progesterone is anti inflammatory. It begs the question is this going to have some influence on inflammatory markers if MTX lowers progesterone, it is after all the most commonly prescribed for RD. Or, should we be being prescribed a progesterone supplement with MTX, much the same as we are folic acid, as ostensibly it's anti inflammatory effect is being diminished.

Could you please also provide the links to the research you've read regarding turmeric & it's hormone stabilising effect on oestrogen & progesterone, the real studies you refer to. Potentially that info could well be of value to me, other ladies of a certain age too. If they're credible it could be something to consider taking up with our GP's. Thanks.

Here some more information on estrogen and progesterone in RA that is quite interesting.

Then to your question. As also stated in the link above women with RA usually have low levels of progesterone when they are given additional progesterone for contraception this would be good news, I imagine. When given Mtx like also said in the above link, the progesterone is lowered. How much it effects the progesterone level I have not found research on. All the best, Simba
