Washington State University's up coming clinical trial with green tea and RA.

Wouldn't it be nice if a cup or 2 of Green tea could stop RA? Washington State University is investigating this in clinical trials in the up coming year.

I don't like green tea. I do like turmeric with pepper for Ra. But I no green tea helps detox. And ra might be linked to bacteria in the intestines , stomach. I will drink anything to get this cure. My life stoped. My life as I mean that I liked. Please help. I would like to help in any way. Do things to fund money or collect for research. Let's end this horrible auto immune disease in my lifetime

I don't care for green tea either. It tastes like paste to me, but I do drink it since I learnt of this University study.

Curcumin, ( the anti inflammitory ingrediant in tumeric) is being used in a clinical vaccine trial Austraila. The results should be anounced next year.

I think green tea tastes disgusting....but like you I'd drink it by the gallon if it helped with the pain of RA!

Funny you posted about Gut issues & RA link. I'm being treated by a Naturopath Dr for Gut/intestinal bacteria problem with my RA right now after some tests showed I had a yeast infection & bacterial gut infection going on. ... thanks

I'll add honey to the tea. It tastes better ..I guess we should stay away from sugar

in reply to Cynthialcj

who knows about sugar? If sugar doesn't bother you, then have it. Some people say sugar effects their RA. It doesn't effect mine. It's the natural chemical EGCG found in the green tea that has a positive effiect with RA.

Any special kind of green tea ?

Honey not the same effect as refined sugar.Sugar feeds the bad bacteria in the gut. If you want to have a good balance between the good and bad bacteria and support your immune system, you leave sugers and sweeteners.

I will add the vinager, im really hurting , tryed everthing. I heard cider pure vinager?

Perhaps something good will come out of this research. It's a phytochemical in green tea they're investigating (and obviously I am on first name terms with all the phytochemicals LOL) but at least it doesn't look like they're suggesting a nice green cuppa is enough!

I'm wishing Mrs Sheehan hadn't thrown me out of nearly every single chemistry class. But I gather there are a lot of everyday substances around that reduce inflammation, but that is all they do in the amounts we can ingest - reduce it, take the edge off at best. So investigating the value of more concentrated forms seems fair enough.

Green tea is one of the things I force down daily on the grounds that it gets a good press and has to be better for me than coffee in the evening. I've come to like it well enough with some manuka honey in it - that's another thing that I have 'just in case it helps'.

What kind of green tea do you drink.?

in reply to Cynthialcj

I drink lipton green tea. It tastes like paste, but I drink it anyways. I started drinking it last year when I heard of this positive pre clinical study. I admit I haven't noticed any positive effects, but I will try anything that is sanctioned by any country's governing body and a University study. :)

I live about a 5 hour drive from this University and I voulenteered to be guinea pig. I was saddened that I am not eligible because I am Canadian, not American.

Twinings Gunpowder Green Tea makes a lovely drink. It's a loose leaf tea (or the one we buy anyway is) so it's easy to make it just how you like it.

While I'm a great believer in an anti-inflammatory diet, I don't think that drinking green tea will stop RA. Not liking coffee or regular tea, green and nettle tea are all I have drunk for several years. It didn't stop me being diagnosed with RD earlier this year though.

But on the plus side, I haven't has the usual swelling associated with RD, so maybe there is something to be said for it! When I started drinking it, I didn't like it and I had to add honey to make it palatable, but it has grown on me and now I drink about 4 unsweetened mugs of green tea a day. Or at least when the SSZ isn't making me sick, I do.

If you don't like tea, you can buy ECGC supplements.

in reply to Em13

I am a firm believer that diet does not effect auto immune diseases. My Multiple Sclerosis went away by itself, I did nothing to cure it.......But I will accept any double blinded study being held at a University with the approval of the arthritis society. It's not about what I think or what anyone else thinks...it's about finding a cure for this dang disease.

in reply to Em13

I wished the study mentioned how the ECGC was used. Was it injested or injected...and/or what dose was best. I don't think supplements sold at the market would survive our acid in our gut though.

Cynthialcj in reply to

Supplements arnt helping ..not yet , but others say they help some..dont no guys . I just keep reading hoping for relief

I enjoy researching any University clinical study being done or will be done in the near future from all over the world. This post was not ment to debate diet and RA, it was to share information from a previous & future clinical double blinded study being held at a University.

The study never mentioned honey, sugar or milk, nor did it mention how we injest the tea. I just wanted to share this study with you all. I am awaiting the results...personally I have been drinking the green tea without any cream or sugar because I prefer my tea or coffee black. :)

Merry Christmas

Sue

I have been drinking a large cup of green tea for years now and I do so because I like the taste and believe it is cleaning my system a bit, but have no idea if it's helped with RA. I like being proven wrong. Let's hope. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Thanks for posting Suzanndale.

A number of folk have said they don't like green tea. Perhaps they don't like it because of the way it is served.

I have been drinking green tea for about 20 years and love it. When I first made a cup my Thai friend said "I can't drink this you are making it all wrong". In the UK you can buy it as loose leaf or as T-bags mainly.

My friend told me to just add a small pinch from the tea bag to a tea pot and yep it is much much nicer drunk that way.

So it works out to be rather cheap as you just cut up the tea bags and pop them in a glass jar.

My favourite is Twinnings Jasmine tea.

That's sounds delicious. I'll try the tea pot boil method, I've tryed celestial green tea and it just drys my throat and gags me, no matter what I add.

Yes do give it a go Cynthialcj.

I drink it in the evenings. Need a couple of caffeine hits during the day!

And because it is green tea it counts towards your water intake for the day.

I also love Japanese Cherry Blossom tea, rarely get to drink it as it as the decent stuff is very expensive in the UK.

Very interesting post...thank you 😊 I drink a lot of green tea as I don't have diary but it is a very acquired taste!! I've tried many but the only one that doesn't leave me feeling slightly sick is the PG TIPS DECAFF GREEN TEA and the PUKKA MATCHA GREEN TEA.

How are you doing?

Well, that would be great! Although I suspect it will depend on the individual. I’ve been drinking about 5 cups of green tea plus a matcha tea every day for the last 1.5 years, my RA is still active but here’s hoping!
