Coming to Terms with RA

Hi

Since being diagnosed with RA I’ve been through a lot of things like side effects from medications, lost relationships, jobs, my hair, self esteem etc but I haven’t gained much. I was diagnosed 5 years ago and I’m about to be put onto my 4th medication since the other 3 haven’t worked. I really hope Humira will be the answer for me. There aren’t any support groups in my area so I really feel isolated. Being able to get to work everyday so I don’t lose my current job is the only good thing I can hope for at the moment.

During five years of dmards and steroids the only thing I gained was weight! Started Imraldi(humira) over a week ago and so far so good. It's still early days but fingers crossed.

I'm with you nearly all the way, 5 th drug, which isn't working either in 3 years and lost my job.

But I have gained patience and meaning for things that matter and have managed to dump things that don't.

Don't lose hope... you will find the treatment to help. I

do hope that humira is the one for you, and I know only too well the mixture of emotions when starting something new....hoping that this is the one that does the trick, but trying not to get too excited in case it doesn't. Then there is the long wait to see any results.....and it can take ages.

But do remember that most of the people who post on this forum are still on the journey, needing support. Many more have found a treatment that works, and are busy getting on with their lives!

I do hope that you join them, but always remember that if humira doesn't work, there are still many more meds out there, and there is lots of ongoing research.

Good luck.....remember there's always someone here who has experience , there's loads of advice and support on this forum.....we've all had our own battles with this wretched disease, don't be afraid to ask for help.

Take care M x

This is tough. I have lost a fiance, job, home, friends, family, hair and waist line over the years. I have lost count on the amount of differnt medications/treatments over the years. However, I have gained a new career, honest to goodness true stand by your side friends and the family I lost I realised was a blessing :-). The hair grew back, not the long luscious hair I did have but it did grow back, shorter, curly and soft.

Currently things aren't great but I guess it will turn around soon and I am going to believe it will be the same for you. Got everything crossed that this treatment will work for you. I wish you the best of luck.
