What is Mst?

As I understand Spinal stenosis causes pain when there is pressure so I presume Dmards would not be suitable as they are designed to stop degeneration of joints affected by RA...so maybe you should try another type of pain management ...either orally or another patch.

Whatever you decide I do hope you get some relief...back pain is so exhausting.

Do let us know what your pain clinic doctor suggests.

My skin started reacting to BuTrans but since the patent ran out my GP replaced them with cheaper alternative, Butec, & I've had no reaction since (same med, buprenorphine just different branding, no difference at all otherwise). Also nearing time to replace the patch the adhesive used to slip leaving a square mark. I used to use Sticky Stuff to get it off but don't need to with Butec. But if they make you ill anyway you probably wouldn't want to try the same pain relief in a different make would you? Únless it's the dose that's too high for you & that's what's making you ill, you don't say what it's doing but if it's nausea it could be you don't tolerate higher doses.

If you've had MST before you'll probably know they're stronger & also, as with any meds but particularly strong pain relief, come with a list of side effects. Maybe if your Pain Clinic doctor didn't discuss why he wouldn't prescribed MST you could ask why if you're to have a review soon? As I tolerate buprenorphine, up to 20mcg/hr anyway, I'm not sure what the next best med is likely to be suggested, sorry.

Then being the same drug Butec may not be the way to go if they trigger extensive eczema & it's not just an application site reaction. I don't think your reaction is listed & as such really should be reported to the Yellow Card Scheme, you can report side effects here mrha.gov.uk/yellowcard or pick up a Yellow Card at your chemist. Have you told the doctor of this reaction, what did he suggest you could try next if not MST? You need some form of pain relief, maybe starting again & trying one then add another, until you find a cocktail that works for you? I know that doctors are very cautious prescribing MST but really unless you're happy trying the different brand patch pain relief (Butec) a compromise must be made by him with alternative medication. Please remember to titre down your patch dose when coming off them if you've been on them longer than 3 months, otherwise you may have withdrawal symptoms. Or could you discuss if Fentanyl is an option if you've been on higher dose BuTrans? There's consideration to be made though, a reaction to the adhesive again, the possibility you'll have a more extensive reaction again if the same adhesive is used.

Please do, you shouldn't be left with such problems & have to stay on the same med really should you. I feel for you.

I think it's because I complained about him before he is getting his revenge

Oh dear. If that's the case he's being very unprofessional. Is there just the one prescribing doctor there or can you choose to see someone else at your next appointment?
