I got up feeling quite good yesterday and as we have our sons car here for a week i hoovered it out for him and cleaned it as he and his wife smoke. I wish i had never started it. I then proceeded to wash it for him. That should have made me realise that i should do nothing else for the rest of the day. I then went down the hospital with our daughter while she had an appt. and i went and got a blood test done.. While waiting for her i managed to see my rheumy consultant as he was coming out of the toilet and nabbed him about my hands. He is ordering me a ultrasound urgently as he he could see i had inflammation there. I said i was in a lot of pain but usually i don't have swelling, but he said he could see swelling and he has also going to get me some hand therapy.
Well when we got home hubby went into the garden after lunch and i joined him as he was potting on seedlings and i thought i could sit and do them for him, which i did, then i went and got the rake out and started to rake the grass to get rid of the moss. I did this sitting down. Then i thought i had better stop which i did and then i sat out the front of the house in the sun with my colouring books and enjoy the warmth of the sun.
Well i have have now paid the price for all that work,my back has moved the discs and the pain down my leg is horrendous and my hands, well what can i say about them except they hurt like hell. I have had very little sleep during the night and have been awake since three and down here since just after four. I have taken my meds and i don't think i will be doing anything at all today as i can barely move and i think i will need hubbys help to put my bra on this morning. SO if you pass my street today you will find me sitting out front and doing nothing.xxxxxxxx

Hi Sylvi, i think we all do it, feeling okay and then think 'Great don't feel too bad what can I do?' Then before you know it, you've done more than you would have normally done on a good day. Feet up today Sylvi. XX
I intend to do nothing at all today. To be honest i don't think my back will let me. I will do a little exercise to try and release my back. I have worn discs in my lower back and i think the disc has moved and caught a nerve,so i have to rest today and gentle exercise tomorrow. My hands are very sore as well so i will take all my pain meds and hope.xxxxxx
Yup, that sounds like me! I'm intrigued as to how you can rake the lawn sitting down?! I must learn that skill. In fact, mowing it lying down would be even better. Do you have that one in your repertoire?
Coincidentally, I also nabbed my consultant as he was coming out of the loo on Monday. He was appalled to see that I could barely walk for pain and authorised a systemic steroid injection ( I'm already on 7 5mg oral). It has helped but I'm still in some pain. Heigh Ho!
Think we all behave the same Sylvi, we have a good day, then make massive effort to get things done, then wham, knackered and pain wracked !!! Wretched disease.
I've been up most of the night, taking erythroped antibiotics for phlebitis and it's causing mega itching, no chance of sleep ! It's Kens 75th today and he's all happy and bright and I feel like dead dog, it's so not fair on him and I'm putting brave face on !!!
Family party tomorrow which knowing our family will be exhausting !! So bracing myself.
Take it easy and don't go washing/hoovering cars again, goodness knows how you managed to do that ! Our son comes every week and does our car, cuts lawns in exchange for a big Sunday lunch !! Xxxx
My problem is i push myself too much all the time. My head says i can do it and i think i can do and wham bham i have over do it.I am 60yrs and think i am a lot younger and do what i did when i was younger.xxxxx
Been there as we all have. My brain thinks I can do everything I did 30 years ago.My body says Whoa!#
Did you enjoy doing what you did ( apart from the car) and feel good and satisfied. If so try to hang on to that feeling and rest your body to get over it.
Sorry to hear that you're in so much discomfort. I am also guilty of overdoing. We are so happy when we wake up feeling pain free that we go overboard with chores, etc. Sitting in the sun is a definite no no. I hope that you had on sunblock. Anyway, I hope that you recover quickly. My heart goes out to you. I share your pain.
Know where your coming from, even when been told to pace yourself, we all seem to think we can do that little bit more. Catch 22 situation yet again. Hope you recover soon.
I'm guilty of that myself. I have only done the shopping, and put it away, took the dog for a walk, last but not least also cooked the lunch. That just leaves the dinner tonight to prepare and cook. Then its the end of the day and bed time . tomorrow it all starts again. My husband does none of the mundane jobs. He does the heavy jobs that i can not do.
So like you my feet are up now and i will sit this afternoon and only make cups of tea.
So look after yourself and remember you can not do everything that you did when younger.
I might lend my son my car but clean his never and he doesn't smoke!!!
Kind thoughts and gestures do not always work out so take this as a final lesson in do all things in moderation and buy your husband an electric moss remover/rake. They work well without pain. My seedlings are nowhere near ready to pot on yet but the greenhouse is warm now so hopefully it won't be long. I'm looking forward to summer and lazy days in the garden watching the grass grow. lol xx
I usually borrow next doors, but they have gone away and i don't know where they keep the shed key.Yes i do have access to their house as we look after it for them. There will be no more raking as hubby has been out there and laid a new lawn and covered it up. We have a conservatory so we do a lot of setting the seeds in there and then we can pot on earlier. I can assure you of one thing i won't be cleaning his car again i am going to buy him a bucket and some cleaning things so he can do it himself.xxxxx
It's nice to feel able just as nice as it is to give your body a rest and do nothing! I'm as guilty! A branch broke off one of our trees during a wind storm a month ago and brough a branch down from another tree with it. I was convinced the branch would bounce back to place if I could get the broken one out of the way. My hubby was planning to do it with his chain saw (which obviously would have been both easier and quicker). Instead, rather than wait for him to do it, I went outside with the little hand saw from my gardening box and sawed away on various medium sized branches until the bent branch catapulted itself back into place! With a great feeling of accomplishment, I waltzed back into the house. Only now, three days later, my sawing hand is still sore! Just another RA fool, I suppose!
Hi Sylvi, hope,by now you have recovered. We are all prone to doing too much, and then the next day it all starts to ache and hurt. We don't like this RA pulling us down, but it's true, we think we can do lots and with the same speed as we were in our 20s😊
