Hip : This bloody hip is doing my head in had 2 steroid... - NRAS
Hip
I had 2 into the hip joint in March. It was painful but after having physio it's now fine. So definitely worth it. At the same time I had injections into my shoulder which was also very painful but oh so worth it! Again, I've had physio on my shoulder since the injections and I now have full range of movement which I hadn't had for 4 months by the time I had the injections. Clemmie
Did it hurt and what was the procedure did they give u anything to relax??? Sorry I'm a wimp where needles are concerned x
I won't lie, I found it very painful. There was a local anaesthetic first but it doesn't help when they get right in. I wasn't offered any sedation and I don't think that it's offered for this sort of thing. When my husband had to have injections into his shoulder, he said he didn't feel a thing. I did but as I said, it was so worth it afterwards. It could be that it hurt so much because I had two injections into my hip at the same time and then two into my shoulder all at the same appointment so maybe I was just very sensitive to it. But now I have no pain. Clemmie
I've had my hip joint injected twice. They need to use some sort of guidance to see where they are going - so it will be under either ultrasound or realtime Xray (fluoroscopy.)
I won't lie - it is a very long needle BUT both doctors who did mine put a syringe full of local anaesthetic on it first, injected a bit, put the needle in a little bit further, stopped & injected more local & kept going like that till they were in the joint space & then switched the syringe for one full of the steroid mix. As a result, it was painless. There was a feeling of a bit of pressure as the steroid went in - that was it.
One doctor advised that I should not take any weight on that leg for 24 hours, the other one said it was OK to walk as normal.
I did have increased pain in the injected joint for a couple of days, but I have been like that whenever I have had other joints done, so kind of expected that.
I got months of relief out of the first injection, not so much out of the second, but enough that I have asked to have it done again as my hip is playing up.
Hope it helps you.
