A leaflet was left in my mailbox.. It says in bold writing, IS YOUR DRINKING WATER TOXIC? The an answer says, "YES, it comes from your tap, in a bottle, or from reverse osmosis because that water is acidic. Your body needs alkaline water".
Can anybody throw some light in this?

No doubt someone trying to sell something. It's my understanding that water should be as close to pH neutral as possible..about pH 7. Most water suppliers will have details on their websites about water regulations and quality. My supplier is United Utilities and if you check this link you'll see a factsheet on pH levels unitedutilities.com/About-y...
I'm not sure where you are or where your water comes from but beware of companies selling anything without separate, independent proof of necessity. I lived in the mountains in Spain & our mains water wasn't potable so we either used the water fountain in the nearest village for safe drinking water or buy it in 5 litre bottles from the supermarket for about 50 cents. I'm not sure whether it was alkaline or not but it tasted good & we came to no harm!
Ok, now I don't wish to assume but are you in the US? I've been having a quick look & most all I can find by simply googling "alkaline water" are reports saying it's all the rage but also " Don't be duped by....", "Snake oil on tap....", "Alkaline Water Hoax....." et al, one or two companies selling ionizers but only American sites on the first page, not one UK. If I specify "Alkaline Water UK" there's very little info except sites selling products to alter normal tap water to turn it into deionized water. If you are in the US maybe it's a scare tactic similar to fluoride a few years ago? I can't say I've heard anything here promoting it to be of specific benefit to people with RD or OA or health authorities advising it to be better for us but reading some of the studies it doesn't seem to have any long term benefit, none that has been scientifically proven for the long term anyhow.
So, as I said in my previous post I think best to beware!
I am in the US and I appreciate your information and input ! Seems today, marketing is an onslaught of either false representation or intimidation...it's sad, but that is the way it is here, they ALWAYS use scare tactics to sell products! It's false advertisement and very deceitful and devious in my opinion !! (Especially when they prey on vulnerable people, such as mental, aging or any other disability) ...... The only thing that would alarm me or scare me with drinking water would be large scale leaks, spillage or other disaster of some sort. That would be the only thing that would rouse my suspicion of drinking tainted or "toxic" water. Thank you AGAIN! Hope ya'lll enjoy the rest of your week! Much LOVE and COMPASSION, Tommy
I also live in the US. When I lived in Miami I drank from the tap. It was tested every year or so, and I never had issues with that. I moved to the west cost in Florida, they say the water is fine and does get tested as well. However, I can smell chemicals in it, so I don't drink it. I drink Zephyrhills water.
My Aunt lives in Pompano Beach , LOVE VISITING HER! It's SO NICE .. Zephyrhills is the water she has delivered to her house to drink! Fortunately, I live in an area where the water is naturally filtered in an underground aquifer ... I live in the Ohio River Valley, Just north of Cincinnati .. Our water comes from "a river under a river" so to speak. there are several layers of sediment and sand between the water that is sent to us.. and it's rated one of the BEST In the US... it is really smooth and no after taste .. So I DO KNOW I am very LUCKY !! Some places I have traveled to the water tastes of chemicals, bleach or even "fishy" in some costal areas.. but it IS IMPORTANT to stay informed in your area on where your water rates and what exactly is in it, that information is AVAILABLE to YOU, -------them door to door ventures should be OUTLAWED< all they do is scare and intimidate little old ladies and the vulnerable ! Hope you have a GREAT WEEK Abby11 ! Great hearing from YOU! .. Tommy
I'm in Canada, and I get these same advertisements at my door all the time. Some companies leave a plastic bottle for you to put a sample of your tap water in, then the company will yest it for free and tell you what's in your water. Well you can pretty much guarantee they will say they found something, since the companies doing this sell very, very expensive water filters. Oh you can get the cheap model but that will only get rid of one toxin, so you better buy the deluxe model or else your gonna be drinking toxic chemicals.
All municipal water in our taps come from a treatment plant where any harmfull bacterium and toxins are removed before being sent to your house as drinkable water. Your water is very safe. The only time I would feel a need to check it, is if you drink well water. In that case I would invest in a water purification filter. I have relatives who live in the country and have well water. It's hard water. neighbouring farms have runoff of manure and pesticides. This is not supposed to affect well water, they said as the well is very deep. However one of the neighbouring farms about a mile away dug too deep for their irrigation and they cracked the bedrock, leaving cracks that water could seep into their well. Some well wAter is perfectly fine, but me that's the water I would test before drinking.
Most of these companies try to scare you. They test your water..... Then the high pressure salesman will hassle you until you buy their system.
I do agree with others who have replied to your post concerning those who would try to scare people into buying their products. But I would have to disagree concerning the benefits of alkaline water. I have been drinking it for more than 8 years and have seen my health improve quite a bit. For my testimony, feel free to read my bio. Please don't give up your quest for a healthier life. If you cannot find me with my name, check out "There is still hope for mitral valve prolapse patients." I wish you the best of luck.
I can not speak to the marketing tactics of these companies trying to sell their product. However drinking Alkaline water helped me with calming down my Acid reflux caused by Prednisone. I was taking Acid reducer ( Zantac) and was prescribed Omeprazol. But one of my co workers suggested Alkaline water as she regularly drinks it as per her Dr suggestion to control her Acid reflux caused by Thyroid issues. I drank alkaline water for a full week and was able to stop taking acid reducer and never needed the Omeprazol. But I also read that drinking alkaline water regularly is not a good idea since your body or especially digestive tract and urinary tract need acidic environment to protect from harmful bacteria. So now I am drinking regular tap water/ filtered water occasionally getting Alkaline water bottles.
