Reason for Lack of Barley Water?

It is quite apparent to me that the manufacturers of Barley water have been trying to discontinue their first class healthy product of Barley water for quite sometime. They wish to replace them with sugary unrefreshing more profitable substitutes. Coronavirus must be an answer to their prayers to sneak through their unadvised plans on their unsuspecting loyal customers with a ready made made excuse to deceive consumers.

I think not!

Buy a bag of pearly barley and lemons. Soak barley, cook it, strain it and add lemon and sugar to taste. You will have barley water with no added preservatives, antioxidents, aspartamine, or other additives for a fraction of the price.

And once cooked you can eat the barley as a salad, or in stews.

If it aint broke why try and fix it. I don't know what it is with products but there's always some tweaking and 'new improved' recipe here and there...and as you say gradually some products simply disappear as more 'popular' ones fill their shoes. |Sign of the times hey?

All of the supermarkets are running with less product lines at the moment to ensure a plentiful supply of the basics

There were several flavours of barley water on sale in my local Waitrose this morning.

But they had run out of sardines in anything other than oil and there were a few other gaps on the shelves. I was asked at the till if I had found everything I needed to get and the woman on the till made a note on her till about the sardines! She said that they are having some problems getting restocked with some lines especially if there has been a run on that item.

I got my supermarket delivery today, much of the fresh fruit and vegetables I ordered were missing. Very poor and really disappointing. I got several, 2 inch pieces of broken carrots instead of 3 large carrots, and a teeny bunch of asparagus. Nothing else.

Last night online everything I ordered was in stock.
