Feeling a bit scared.

Hello every one. Hopefully there is some one out there that can put my mind at rest. I have ra and am on hydroxychoroquine sulfazalazine methotrexate and cimzia injections. I need urgent dental work as I have an abscess inmy mouth . I have been put on antibiotics so I have to stop all the medicine mentioned. I feel the best I have felt in over a year. I'm able to move about with no morning stiffness I only have very mild pain in a few joints. I'm really scared I will now go backwards to the pain and discomfort I suffered before. Please someone out there that has had to do this tell me I'm worrying for no reason. Many thanks.

Hopefully you'll be back on the meds before your RA wakes up and notices. I've had a couple of spells with no meds and usually the first few weeks have been fine. It was only being off meds for about a month that started causing problems.

I echo helix's reply except I was off my meds for 3 months, including MTX & RD really bit me on the bum within 2 weeks. I suppose it depends on how active your RD is & if the mix you take controls it well as mine obviously did!

I hope your dental treatment & antibiotic solve the problem quickly as abscesses are no fun are they?

Remission can sometimes happen after meds are stopped. I'm on Tocilizumab for RA and in remission within a couple of weeks. Inflammation markers CRP and ESR down to 1 & 2 and no side effects. Currently trialling Methotrexate withdrawal on double blind placebo trial RD&E paid for by Roche but would eventually like to trial all med withdrawal as Toc not only works without MTX but in private trials remission in some was permanent when Toc was stopped. Trouble is Pharmaceuticals won't pay for trials that mean they will sell less of their new expensive meds which have taken years and millions to develop and I can't say I blame them for that.

had the same problem recently , rheumy said to not take cimzia till a week after my extraction so luckily I timed it so it was done a week after my usual injection so didn't actually have to miss a dose , I had a week of antibiotics afterwards and no ill effects, hope you are better soon , toothache is horrible x
