Well the useless consultant of mine won't do knee replacement even though all the damage is behind my knee cap

Knee replacement can be age related as they prefer to do them in later life. So i you are young they could wait until the operation is really needed.

My wife had a car accident about twenty years ago and now needs a knee op. She is 57 and they are trying to extend the years into mid sixties before they perform op

The sooner they perform the op they may need to renew it later on and then the operation becomes problematic.

I would ask for a second opinion if you are concerned. I had my first knee replacement at 56 & just had my 2nd one at 60 so I'm not convinced by the age thing! My knee surgery was done by two different consultants at two different hospitals. Good luck

Hi I have RA an had hip replacement at 42. What were your symptoms for knee replacement? my knee is so painful it's like I have broken my leg. Can't put weight or stand or walk on my legs

without severe pain . App for rheum dept in two weeks. In agony and depressed as can't get out an about. Any info would be appreciated.

My symptoms were very similar - it was painful to walk on the knee however it was the xrays that showed how much damage there was with bone on bone.

Hi, what do you mean the damage is behind the knee cap? A knee replacement is done when the joint is so damaged that the best alternative is to replace. If it is soft tissue then a knee replacement will not help

Why do you not ask your consultant to explain why you are not eligible for that kind of surgery and what options are open to you
