Aching knees

Suddenly, and for no obvious reason, I have developed an aching knee (right) which clicks and is stiff. The stiffness goes once I'm moving but the clicking remains. I have RA & take methotrexate to treat it, but I also manage it by diet and keeping active, all with the support of my doctor. Any ideas what I can do to get my knee better myself?

Thank you. Maybe it's just down to all this damp weather we've been having. I think I will give the gym and treadmill a miss today and walk my dog a few times.

Good morning Knitmare,

I think 🤔 if it was me, I would Be speaking with rheumy team, or your GP?? That way they can refer you to the correct health person.....

Best wishes x

Aching + Clicking + Knee + stiffness going after movement = usually osteo-arthritis :)

I have OA alongside RD.

They feel different from each other, the clicking and grinding sounds like OA.

You could try using diclofenac gel like Voltarol to see if it helps. Otherwise I agree you should contact your Rheumy.

Hi. If you can get to a swimming pool, walking lanes will help strengthen the knee muscles. Lots of people do this so don't feel daft doing it! I have been through this myself and it is good to get a referral to the Musculoskeletal Team who will examine you, possibly send you for x rays and steroid injections into the knee may be offered to you if considered helpful or maybe offer you ideas of good exercises. I think my referral came from the G.P.

Other than that, Superdrug and other chemists sell elasticated knee support bandages (the ones I use cost around £5) that I found really good and even wear one in the swimming pool whilst exercising. They hand wash too. Good Luck!
