Sensitive teeth
Hi, yes definitely and I'm a dental nurse so I know I'm doing everything I should but sometimes for no reason my mouth us in agony. I also get this terrible burning mouth and I'm sure MTX is to blame on me. Maryx
Hi Mary just thought I'd let you know that I have had the burning red mouth for years, recently an on line doctor suggested that I may have candida as Methotrexate can cause this, so I went on 3 drops of teatree oil in 1/4 glass of water and swish it around, wonderful mouth heaps better, don't know if that's your problem.cheers
Hi, I have been getting this recently too, especially with cold drinks and i take mtx too. Xx
I don't know if it is the mxt, but I do get sensitive teeth, so I use sensydine toothpaste, which helps
Hello
They say it can give sore gums and other sores,

Hello,
I'm not on mtx but I am on Rituximab and, like some of the others, until recently I have hardly ever had sensitive teeth but now it's unbearable much of the time. I even have to psych myself up to clean my teeth because the pain of touching my teeth with the soft toddler toothbrush I use can reduce me to tears. I went to the dentist because I was so sure I had decay but apparently not and the only thing the dentist could suggest is inflammation of the ligaments holding the teeth in place and/or my very dry mouth caused by a combination of secondary Sjogrens and some of the meds I take. So I wonder if maybe it's caused by the underlying disease process not helped by some of the meds.
Sorry I can't offer any real advice - but I hope things improve for us all soon.
Tillyx
PS: Because I have Sjogrens, I use Biotene Toothpaste which is meant for people with a dry mouth. Whilst it does nothing to help with the sensitive teeth, it is a lot less harsh than many ordinary toothpastes so I do find it a bit easier to use. It's really expensive though so better if you are able to have it on prescription if you are using it regularly.
Gosh I never put 2+2 together til now but yes mine started when I started up the MTX too. It was bad for a few moths but I used an expensive sensitive toothpaste and that has helped a lot Now if I could only get rid of brain freeze when I drink the cold drinks....lol!

My dentist told me the inflammation in your body causes gums to become inflamed and causes hot and cold sensitivity. He said that you must be very careful to floss everyday and use either gum health or sensitive mouth wash 2 mins after brushing and he recommended oral b Pro. He Also said in his experience over the years you must practice good dental care or teeth can loosen due to inflammation of the gums I go every three months for deep cleaning if you hate this ask for an injection I hope this helps.
Hi,
I am on mtx and had the same. I use sensodyne pro-enamel toothpaste.it has helped a lot.its a bit more expensive so I tend to buy a couple when it's on special in the supermarket.do you take folic acid day after mtx?its supposed to help prevent mouth ulcers etc
Hope you feel better soon.
