Hi all. Has anyone else had their teeth just suddenly start to fall out. I hope everyone is keeping safe.
Teeth : Hi all. Has anyone else had their teeth just... - NRAS
Teeth
After diagnosis and started treatment 4 years ago I had a sudden onset of dental problems. Fillings, root canals crumbling teeth which led to having caps done and real gum issues so was referred to dental hospital. Was told dental problems common with RA. It just keeps on giving 🥺
I have problems with teeth for sure, more so after my RA was diagnosed. Think some of the meds can cause a few dental issues too. Take care x
It might be worth asking for a prescription for Duraphat 500 toothpaste which has extra fluoride in which could help.... you need to get your dentist to prescribe it.
All the best

Thanks for asking this as I've never had problems with my teeth, I do get mouth ulcers which I understand can be connected with Lupus, but for a few weeks now my gums have started to bleed and are 'tingling'. I'm not doing anything different or eating anything different so I'm glad you have asked this question. Take care x
The backs of my two front teeth gradually eroded away until they broke off. I had the first one capped, but had the other extracted when that broke. When I asked my dentist what the cause was, she said that I must be grinding my teeth, if not when awake, then I'm doing it in my sleep, which I definitely was not. She obviously did not know. I'm guessing it's either meds or RA related.
For the first twoish years after diagnosed with RD, I had so many problems with crumbling and broken teeth and had three crowns and two extractions. However in the past yearish things have settled. I was diagnosed three and a half years ago. So that is my experience and as has been said there is a connection between RD and teeth issues.
I wish you well. 🌈
My dentist commented that my cleaning hadn't been as good as usual at my last appointment. I said that my regime was the same and he said that it was common with RA. His explanation was that it causes you to have less saliva which in turn allows the plaque to build up quicker. I have been aware of my mouth being drier so that makes sense. He suggested that I should try to be even more scrupulous with cleaning but also that I might need more frequent hygienist sessions (no chance of that atm!) The hygienist suggested using an alcohol-free mouth wash between teeth brushing sessions (although not immediately after brushing) and more scrupulous use of interdental brushes. Also sucking (sugar-free) lozenges/mints to keep the saliva flowing. Bleeding gums can be a sign of plaque build-up, I think.
I recently bought a Water Pik & my dentist said my gums were nice & healthy,,,& your mouth does feel fresh.....It might help?
Word of warning if you do get one ...remember to turn it off before you take it out of your mouth ......I have some very interesting watermarks around my bathroom sink from before I remembered! !
I've had gum and mouth problems , but no actual teeth falling out.
I've had three crumbling teeth repaired in the last year since being diagnosed 😟
I have had a lot of dental problems but I have primary Sjögren’s syndrome, and dental problems are common. However, my friend, who does not have any autoimmune disease suddenly lost some teeth and they found it was due to a vitamin D deficiency.
My front two teeth are chipped at the end and I hadn’t realised until just now it’s only happened since my diagnosis... scared it’s going to get worse and no dentists working to get it fixed 🤦♀️
