But before I launch I hope you all had a lovely time over the Festive period with your families and I wish you all a very Happy Peaceful New Year.
Ok, gripe time.
I have been ill with a cold a few day before Christmas, poorly all over that time and now feeling awful again. Its the worse cold I have ever had and I am guessing because my immune system is running at its all time low (my WBC count is 0.5) do you guys find that your cold are worse? I am now having a mini flare up with my RA which seemed to be improving after 12 weeks on Hydroxychloroquine. .
Would like to hear your experiences. Xx

Hiya Hev, I'm so sorry to hear how much you are suffering with this cold, for the last 2 winters I took advantage of the flu jab and I've got to say sooooo glad I did. Touchwood....I haven't had a proper cold for ages....probably jinxed it now..LoL!
I used to take Hydroxy along with Sulfa over a year ago and while it worked for a bit the flare ups started occurring more and more until the RA completely broke through. But then this didn't happen until at least 9-12 months after I'd been taking the drugs. Maybe speak to your rheumy about this, he/she may suggest a short dose of steroids to tide you over. Also it could be the cold that is aggravating the flare up as well but best to contact your rheumy or even your GP.
Hope you get over this very soon and wish you good health for 2014....take care and let us know how you get on. Big hugs xxxx
Thank you so much for this lovely reply. Hope you haven't jinxed your good run! I have some Prednisolone in my ever growing medicine cupboard so will speak to my GP about starting them for a while.
Big hugs to you too and a very Happy HEALTHY New Year xxxxxx
Hi Allanah, Hope you are ok. Yes colds are horrid and maybe I am being a wimp but I truly felt so ill and drained of energy. Thank you for always replying, Have a great New Year xxxxxx
Hello
Sorry that you were ill over Christmas, and now in flare. I was collecting wood for the fire and have hurt myself So now flaring as well. Possibly could it be the weather ?,or have I just been silly. Sorry to bitch on your page
Hi Bob, Once again thanks for your reply. I do hope you have not hurt yourself badly. Does that cause you to flare? Don't worry about bitching on my page........bitch away! Thats why we are here for each other.
Get better soon and a big cuddle coming your way xxxxx
Hi Hev,
I reckon that colds are grossly underrated in how miserable they can make you feel. Like Luthien I've been fortunate in managing to avoid bad colds for a while now but do get recurring problems with my sinus which can be a pain.
I managed to get through Christmas Day and Boxing Day on adrenalin I suspect but the following day was all about the collapse. It seemed as though every joint in my body was complaining and fatigue to end all fatigues set in. Thankfully I was able to sleep it off and after a couple of days of literally doing nothing I picked up a bit. I still don't seem to have got the hang of pacing myself!!
I hope your cold improves soon but in the meantime, a hot water bottle and feet up on the sofa with a good book is my recommendation. xxxx
hello there, sorry to here about your cold but I was told by my rheumy sister to take Zinc tablets through the winter months starting october till march as the flu jab doesn't agree with me and it works. cold free for the past three years. hope this helps in someway. take care and I hope you'll soon be well again.
Thanks and Happy New Year Creaky! Sorry to hear you were so exhausted after Christmas but fully appreciate how you must have felt. Glad you were able to sleep it off. I hope it stays away for a while and your body has time to recover completely.
My sinus are a problem also, I have had raging Tinnitis for years and have learnt to deal with it, but when I get a cold it's becomes very prevalent again.
Will follow your instructions to the letter. Thanks again xxxx
Hi I also take advantage of the flu injection every year and rarely have a cold, if I do its usually just a bit of a sniffle. If you haven't had it then might I suggest you have a word with your GP and make sure you get it. I've never looked back. No flare ups since May 2012 either, I am such a lucky woman. I put it down to starting the gym, losing weight, eating much healthier, increasing folic acid rich foods. Hope your feeling better soon. Happy New Year for 2014 x
Hi Calflo I think diet and excercise are so important. Thank you for your input. I will certainly get the jab next year. JUst got back from my GP and I have a ear, throat and upper respiritory infection so on the old ABx. Hopefully will do the trick. He did say it takes us at least twice as long to get over colds etc. Happy New Year to you too. xx
I agree and it is definately worth getting the flu jab. I've been a bit naught and haven't taken my medication yesterday as I am going to have a drink tonight. Enjoy New Year
