I will never smoke again....

I stopped smoking on 15 September 2015 and sadly on 18 December 2022, my dear Dad passed away after a short illness and battling advanced Dementia for 6 years. We thought he had pulled through from pneumonia he had 5 weeks previously but unknown to us, his body was slowly shutting down and he never recovered from it.

During the initial shock of him passing, the funeral and the last week, I watched my family, relatives and friends chain smoking during this time. I never once felt the urge to smoke and I truly believe now I will never smoke again!

7 years ago, that would have been a different story and I would have been out with the smoking gang! But, with giving up smoking (and drinking 2 years ago), I have become a much stronger person to deal with life's curveballs and struggles.

So, another positive to add to the list of stopping!!

Hi Roison01, Always sad when anyone loved dies. 6 years is a long battle and now, for him to have put the gloves down and be at peace must give you some comfort. I lost one of my sisters last July and another one is now on the last bus just about at the stop. It certainly is great we are non smokers. Grieve gently and slowly .

So sorry for your loss. However, I am right there with you. Somehow we managed to pass the point of NEVER smoking again. Just doesn't enter the thoughts anymore. Everyone keep up the mindset and you'll make it!

Sorry to hear about your dad Roisin. There’s never a good time for it to happen but over the Christmas period must be especially hard. Nice to hear you’re even more determined to not smoke again though. Best wishes from your old quitting mucker.
