Help to stop
A good start would be to read the Pinned Posts on the right of the home page. Various topics just as handling cravings, what to expect, etc. Good Luck
Hi Rice - I think you're already off to a great start by coming here. This is my second time around because I'm an idiot and after two free years I pretty much DECIDED to start smoking again. And I know without a doubt I couldn't have done it first time without this forum. Being able to come and vent my frustrations, or focus on someone else's problems, or just have a read and remind myself of all the billions of good reasons to not smoke, was totally priceless. I really hope you stick with it!
I am a registered nurse and baccalaureate student. I am here to learn more about patient experiences and their challenges with tobacco use. Have you tried looking into community resources? There are programs that offer support and nicotine replacement at no cost for x amount of days.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Nichole
Good luck. Remember always why you have decided to give up and take a breath.
HiYou must really want to stop. And I mean really. Read Allen Carr book Easy way to stop smoking. It dispels all the myths and excuses we make to continue the filthy habit. You are not addicted to cigarettes but the nicotine the tobacco industry cleverly added to tobacco. Nicotine is THE most addictive substance in the world.
Nicotine leaves your body after 3 days of not smoking. The first 2 weeks of not smoking are the worst for cravings. You need to distract, deep breathing, drink water, go for walks take up a new hobby etc. After 3 months the nicotine leaves your brain, and the cravings significantly reduce. You still get the odd rogue thoughts but by now you know what they are and can ignore them. Good luck in your journey, you will feel so much better when you can be free of the tyranny of smoking.
