Hello to everyone out there. I have been smoke-free/nicotine free for 36 days. I would like some tips from people about practical ways to regain energy and stamina. I am also considering taking myself off a prescription sleep aid that I take so I will be 100% drug-free. I want to know others success stories in this arena so that I can share in that

Hi and congrats on over a month free!

I take 20 mg amitriptyline for sleep and I’m not prepared to give it up. If you feel strong about giving up sleep meds, can you do it slowly like wean off? I wonder if tackling both smokes and sleep meds too soon might interfere with your progress? You could give it a couple more months and then slowly wean off?

I probably should be gentle on myself. I’ve been taking 3mg of lunesta every night before bed for about 8 years. I know that I am addicted to this sleep aid. Some might say that’s impossible, however I know myself and I will need a support network in order to leave this behind me and then be 100% free from any drug in my body. That’s what I really desire. I want to know what that feels like.

Welcome Hidden and congratulations on over 1 month smoke free, congratulations!

I agree with Quit4money about not tackling both at the moment, as one of the main nicotine withdrawals is sleep disruption which varies with everyone but I stopped cold turkey over 3 and a half years ago and the worse side effect for me personally was the waking up in the middle of the night wide awake and falling back asleep just when the alarm went off 😴⏰

To help with the energy and stamina, avoid caffeine, alcohol and sugary foods as contribute alot to the anxiety and craving episodes. Drink loads and loads of water and eat plenty of fresh whole fruit and vegetables 🍇🍈🍉🍊🍋🍌🥕🌽🍄🥝

A visit to your local health food shop for some herbal and vitamin supplements is worthwhile to help with all these feelings you are experiencing. Magnesium seems to be very beneficial. A bit of a walk to clear the head daily too, 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️

Below pinned post on nicotine withdrawal is worth a read if not already done so:
