I'm sending a conference right now, which has brought to light many of the great benefits is not smoking. I have always been as secretive a smoker as possible (shame, anyone?) so I'd spend an inordinate amount of time worrying whether I waited long enough after a smoke to go in without anyone noticing (they probably always did), should I go change clothes? , do I have time to shower before the dinner meeting? Plus I would pass up on networking opportunities like happy hours because I knew I would want to smoke. This way is so much easier!
On the negative side, my sense of smell has improved a lot and the scent of the hotel's sticky paper towels has been haunting me all day.

Oh yes the shame. Awful, and the smell. Worse. And the whole disposal issue. I couldn't leave butts on the ground, I would tuck them under shrubs, but then I would worry they might still be smouldering. I never had anything with me to put them in, so sometimes I would put a butt in my bag. I have ruined several good bags. And then if I put the butt I n the bin in my hotel room I would worry that I would be accused of smoking in the room and fined and thrown out.
