Hello my name is Billy. I have been smoking for 2& years and have decided to stop. Is it a good idea to quit cold turkey?? I noticed my breathing has become worse and feeling little pain in my abdominal area. So I decided to take it down from 30 a day to about 2-3

Billiboy...Welcome  it is a little bit unclear ..you smoked 28 years or 2 + years. Still 30 a day is heavy (say a Sixty a day ex !!! ).

Cold turkey is the way to go although I thought it is much like pushing a person overboard 2 miles offshore....but there is not a easy way to quit smoking...Just do it !!!

Stay strong and good idea to seek medical advice on the pains !!!

Welcome Billyboy!

I quit cold turkey 7 months ago today and never looked back.   It has been a roller coaster of a journey but so worth the blood, sweat and tears!

I would suggest setting a quit date as soon as you can, researching and reading up on what happens mentally and physically when we quit.   There is some pinned posts just to the right of this page that may be helpful.

Look forward to seeing in Day 1 soon....

PS Keep us updated on how you are getting on....

Hello Billy,

I think the ultimate aim is to get to a smoke-free state where you're not relying on any other crutch.

How you get there is up to you. There are plenty of options available so I would suggest you go with whatever appeals to you. Cold Turkey or NRT - the choice is yours! There isn't an easy option though - NRT helps, but (in my experience) it is still FAR from easy.

There are people here who are quitting by most methods so you should get advice, however you do it. Looking forward to hearing how you get on.

I would definitely get the pain in your abdomen checked out.

Not what you're looking for?
