If it's only one puff I wouldn't be too hard on yourself.

Hey Donnag, have you smoked anymore since you took that puff earlier, if not, thats great, just get back on your quit and tell yourself how terrible you felt taking that puff and it will never ever happen again, don't give up on your quit if you are 100% focused and determined to do it.

Donna...welcome!

Try to think of the quit as a learning process...but know from day one that you are here to succeed.

Think of a baby starting to walk...how many times is the poor thing going to try to stand up, grab onto the furniture and attempt first steps?

Know that this baby is going to walk one way or the other...some start walking at 9 months - some won't start until they are close to 18 months.

This is YOUR quit, you will fall, get up and go again, fall again...well then, get up and go!

You will soon resume yourself to the thought that you will be wasting your time with just ONE and that will keep you away from anymore One's.

Ideally, we would all be perfect quitters and be able to vow NO and stick to it. Some others (myself - hence serial quitter tag) need a bit more pratice to get there.

I did get there, so will you. I am 16 weeks and 1 hour smokes free as I post now.

Just please, dont give up giving up and stay focused.

xxx Good luck!

Well said mmaya :)

Hi donna, it's true, one puff doesn't mean you've lost! Just hold on to how it's made you feel, you'll just keep getting stronger! Good luck, we've all got your back :)

Donna, how is it going today?! Are you back on the horse?

Don't beat yourself up if you slip up.

Better think why you wanted to have a smoke and try to understand that smoking doesn't give you anything.

I personally had a different approach :) I set a day and didn't smoke for 24 hours. Next week I didn't smoke for two days. Week after that I was supposed not to smoke for three days but after the end of no-smoking period I wasn't able to take a puff. It made me want to vomit.

During the days I didn't smoke I made sure to take a note of the changes I felt. Like feeling of warmth in hands and feet returning. When it came time to smoke I thought about how it felt good not to smoke. How it tasted horrible.

I asked myself why would I smoke and when i wasn't able to come up with an answer to this question - that's the moment I quit. Not when I smoked the last cigarette but when that change in the attitude happened.

Hope it makes sense and my story was helpful :)

Good luck and enjoy your smoke free life :)
